Fahmi: Govt to cover postal delivery costs for medicines from Oct 1 under MCMC-MOH initiative

The Communications Ministry and MCMC will provide free postal delivery of medicines for patients from October 1.

The initiative, costing about RM5 million, will be implemented nationwide and funded by the government.

Previously, patients paid for delivery, but costs will now be fully covered by a government programme expected to help 80,000 patients monthly.

PADANG BESAR, Sept 26 — The Communications Ministry, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will help the Health Ministry (MoH) provide free postal delivery of medicines to patients who opt for the service from October 1.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative would be implemented nationwide with an allocation of about RM5 million.

“Previously, patients had to pay for the postal delivery of medicines, but from October 1, they will no longer have to pay as the cost will be fully borne by the government through MCMC,” he told reporters after visiting the National Digital Health Ecosystem and Connectivity Driver (Persada) initiative project at the Padang Besar Health Clinic here today.

Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and Perlis Health director Dr Ghazali Chik.

In June, Fahmi was reported to have said that the government would fully bear the cost of delivering medicines to about 80,000 patients a month under the Postal Medicine Delivery Programme (UMP), through a collaboration between MCMC and MoH. — Bernama
