Over $1 million worth of drugs seized following bust at Tuas Checkpoint, raid in Tampines

Two men, aged 32 and 41, were arrested on Sept 23 following the detection of drugs in a Malaysia-registered motorcycle at Tuas Checkpoint.

In a joint news release on Monday (Sept 28), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said the estimated value of drugs seized is over $1 million, and could potentially feed the addiction of about 4,600 abusers for a week.

According to the agencies, the discovery unfolded when a 32-year-old male Malaysian motorcyclist was directed for enhanced checks.

There, drugs purportedly hidden in sealed packets labelled as commercial biscuits, were found by ICA's search and examination officers in the rear storage box of the motorcycle.

CNB officers who were alerted to the find conducted further checks and found more similar sealed packets.

A total of about 6.9kg of heroin, 1.1kg of 'Ice' and 1.03kg of cannabis were seized from the motorcycle, the agencies said.

Following the arrest and subsequent investigations, CNB officers launched an operation in the vicinity of Tampines Street 83, which led to the arrest of a 41-year-old Singaporean man for suspected drug offences.

A search of his residence uncovered a total of about 790g of heroin, 602g of cannabis, 127g of 'Ice', 51g of 'Ecstasy' tablets and 21g of ketamine.

CNB said cash amounting to $33,086 was also seized from him.

Investigations into the duo are ongoing.

Under the Misuse of Drugs Acts, those who import or export from Singapore more than 15g of diamorphine or "pure heroin", or more than 250g of methamphetamine, or more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.

Meanwhile, those found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine or "pure heroin", or more than 500g of cannabis, may also face the mandatory death penalty.

搜查他的住所后，共查获约 790 克海洛因、602 克大麻、127 克冰毒、51 克摇头丸和 21 克氯胺酮。

中央肃毒局表示，还从他身上搜出了33086元现金。

对这两人的调查仍在进行中。

根据《滥用毒品法》，从新加坡进口或出口超过 15 克二乙酰吗啡（纯海洛因）、超过 250 克甲基苯丙胺或超过 500 克大麻的人，可能面临死刑。
