Lee to visit France next week for summit with Macron

President Lee Jae Myung will visit France next week for a summit-level cinema event and bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. The trip runs from Sunday to Wednesday and follows Macron’s visit to Korea in April. Lee will co-chair the Lumiere Summit with Macron and hold summit talks in Paris during a state visit that marks 140 years of diplomatic relations.

Lee’s trip is scheduled from Sunday to Wednesday, with a two-day state visit to Paris starting Tuesday.

He will first go to Saint-Paul-de-Vence to attend the Lumiere Summit on the future of cinema.

Lee and Macron will have a one-on-one luncheon on Tuesday, followed by a summit and a dinner banquet at the Elysee Palace.

Lee is also set to attend a business roundtable with 20 companies from both countries and meet Yael Braun-Pivet and OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann.

A presidential official said the summit may include discussions on cooperation in nuclear power plants and troop deployment to the Strait of Hormuz.

President Lee Jae Myung will visit France next week to attend a summit-level event on cinema and hold bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, a presidential official said Friday.

The trip, scheduled for Sunday to Wednesday, comes at the invitation of Macron following the French leader's visit to Korea in April, according to National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac. It also comes as the two countries mark the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Lee will first travel to Saint-Paul-de-Vence to attend the Lumiere Summit on the future of cinema before making a two-day state visit to Paris from Tuesday, during which he will hold summit talks with Macron, Wi said.

Lee will serve as co-chair of the Lumiere Summit with Macron on Monday, while on Tuesday, Lee and Macron will have a one-on-one luncheon, followed by a summit and a dinner banquet hosted by Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, at the Elysee Palace.

In Paris, Lee will also attend a business roundtable involving 20 companies from both countries and have meetings with Yael Braun-Pivet, speaker of the lower house of the French parliament, and Mathias Cormann, secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Wi said Lee's trip is expected to generate tangible cooperation in security, the economy, science and technology, culture and people-to-people exchanges with France, as well as joint efforts to respond to the rapidly changing international order.

The trip, in particular, will further flesh out the "global strategic partnership" forged between the two countries by fostering cooperation in major sectors, such as security, the economy and people-to-people exchanges, the national security adviser said.

"(Korea) will also expand cooperation with France in artificial intelligence, space, nuclear energy, biology and other advanced technologies to solidly lay the foundation for the sustainable development of bilateral ties," Wi added, calling the country a leader in future industries.

"We will thoroughly prepare for the trip so it can serve as a new starting point that lays the solid foundation for another 140 years of relations," the national security adviser said.

A presidential official later added that the Lee-Macron summit may also include discussions on cooperation in nuclear power plants and troop deployment to the Strait of Hormuz.

一位总统府官员周五表示，李在明总统将于下周访问法国，出席电影峰会，并与法国总统埃马纽埃尔·马克龙举行双边会谈。

据韩国国家安全顾问魏成乐透露，此次访问定于周日至周三进行，是应马克龙总统的邀请。此前，马克龙总统曾于4月访问韩国。此次访问也正值两国建交140周年之际。

魏表示，李将首先前往圣保罗德旺斯参加卢米埃尔电影未来峰会，然后从周二开始对巴黎进行为期两天的国事访问，期间他将与马克龙举行峰会会谈。

周一，李将与马克龙共同担任卢米埃尔峰会的联合主席；周二，李和马克龙将举行一对一午餐会，随后马克龙和他的妻子布丽吉特·马克龙将在爱丽舍宫主持峰会和晚宴。

Wi补充说：“（韩国）还将扩大与法国在人工智能、太空、核能、生物学和其他先进技术领域的合作，为双边关系的可持续发展奠定坚实基础。”他还称法国是未来产业的领导者。
