Instead of getting paid for the toy her child had sold on Carousell, a woman lost $1,700.
The buyer was fake, and her personal credentials had allegedly been stolen by scammers when she accessed a link to help her child get paid.
In a TikTok video on Monday (Sept 28), user graceqin_1988 said her child had listed a doll for sale.
Earlier that afternoon, a buyer expressed interest in the toy and proposed continuing the conversation on WhatsApp.
Grace said her child agreed, and the buyer subsequently sent a PDF file containing payment and delivery details as well as an invoice.
The invoice purportedly contained a URL link, leading to a page which asked for the input of bank login details.
"I didn't think much of it. My child had sold an item and was very happy, so I said to use my (banking details)," she explained.
She entered her banking credentials and said she received a confirmation message on her phone.
"Then I followed the prompt. That's it," she stated.
But when she checked online, she saw her money deducted.
She said she immediately called the bank, which confirmed the outgoing transfer.
It is unclear if she reported the "buyer" to Carousell and the police.
In the video, she urged viewed to not disclose banking details to anybody.
"I lost $1,700 today, I think of it as buying myself a lesson," she said.
"If your children are selling or purchasing items online, be sure to let them close the deal in person," Grace advised.

Singapore recorded a total of 16,821 scam cases in the first half of 2026.
In 80.8 per cent of cases, scammers did not gain direct control of victims' accounts but manipulated them into making monetary transactions.
A total of 1,555 scam cases occurred on Carousell, with approximately $1 million lost, the police said.

当天下午早些时候，一位买家对这款玩具表示了兴趣，并提议在 WhatsApp 上继续交流。
格蕾丝说她的孩子同意了，买家随后发送了一个 PDF 文件，其中包含付款和交货详情以及发票。
据称，发票中包含一个 URL 链接，点击后会跳转到一个要求输入银行登录信息的页面。
“我当时没想太多。我的孩子卖掉了一件东西，非常高兴，所以我就让她用我的（银行信息）付款，”她解释说。
她输入了银行账户信息，并表示在手机上收到了确认短信。
“然后我就按照提示做了。就是这样。”她说道。
但当她上网查看时，发现钱被扣了。
她说她立即打电话给银行，银行确认了这笔汇款。
目前尚不清楚她是否向 Carousell 和警方举报了这位“买家”。
视频中，她敦促观众不要向任何人透露银行账户信息。
“我今天损失了1700美元，我觉得这是在给自己买个教训，”她说。
“如果你的孩子在网上买卖东西，一定要让他们当面完成交易，”格蕾丝建议道。

新加坡在 2026 年上半年共记录了 16,821 起诈骗案件。
在 80.8% 的案例中，诈骗者没有直接控制受害者的账户，而是操纵他们进行金钱交易。
警方表示，Carousell 平台上共发生 1555 起诈骗案件，损失金额约达 100 万美元。
