Perak PKR chairman Mohamad Hairul Amir sworn in as senator

Perak PKR chairman Mohamad Hairul Amir Sabri was sworn in as a Senator for a three-year term from 2026 to 2029.

He was appointed after Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof vacated the position in May.

Mohamad Hairul Amir brings broad experience in political leadership and governance to the Senate.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — Perak PKR chairman Mohamad Hairul Amir Sabri today took his oath of office as a Senator representing the state for a three-year term from Sept 10, 2026 to Sept 9, 2029.

Mohamad Hairul Amir, 38, was sworn in before Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah at a ceremony held at the Senate here.

He was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof, whose term as Senator ended on May 24.

On September 10, the Perak State Legislative Assembly elected Mohamad Hairul Amir, who is also chief special officer at the Office of the Tambun MP, following a motion tabled by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad under Article 45(1)(a) of the Federal Constitution.

Meanwhile, Awang Bemee, in his speech, said Mohamad Hairul Amir’s broad experience spanning political leadership, public administration, government relations, community development and corporate governance would bring valuable insights to Senate debates and proceedings.

“His involvement in statutory bodies and government-linked companies (GLCs), as well as his roles on independent audit committees and private sector boards, has further broadened his experience in governance, management, accountability and integrity,” he said.

Awang Bemee hoped Mohamad Hairul Amir would draw on his wealth of experience to contribute constructively in discharging his duties as a Senator.

Meanwhile, he said the Dewan Negara would continue to play a pivotal role in strengthening Malaysia’s parliamentary institution, including through the implementation of the Parliamentary Service Act 2025, which, among other things, seeks to reinforce the principle of separation of powers and enhance the effectiveness of Parliament’s checks and balances.

He said the move was crucial to strengthening Parliament’s autonomy and standing, enabling it to fulfil its role effectively, independently and credibly within the country’s democratic system.

“We want the Dewan Negara to be an institution that voices the concerns of the people and the states, scrutinises national policies and legislation, and strengthens the principle of checks and balances within the parliamentary democratic system,” he said.

According to the parliamentary calendar, the Dewan Negara will convene for the Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament from November 30 to December 22. — Bernama

吉隆坡，9月29日讯——霹雳州公正党主席莫哈末海鲁·阿米尔·萨布里今日宣誓就任霹雳州参议员，任期三年，从2026年9月10日至2029年9月9日。

38岁的莫哈末海鲁阿米尔在上议院主席拿督阿旺比米阿旺阿里巴沙面前宣誓就职。

他被任命填补诚信党副主席拿督斯里穆加希德·尤索夫博士留下的空缺，穆加希德·尤索夫博士的参议员任期于5月24日结束。

9月10日，霹雳州立法议会根据联邦宪法第45(1)(a)条，由州务大臣拿督斯里沙拉尼·穆罕默德提出的动议，选举莫哈末·海鲁·阿米尔为州议员。莫哈末·海鲁·阿米尔同时也是淡汶国会议员办公室的首席特别官员。

与此同时，阿旺·贝米在讲话中表示，穆罕默德·海鲁尔·阿米尔在政治领导、公共管理、政府关系、社区发展和公司治理方面的丰富经验，将为参议院的辩论和程序带来宝贵的见解。

他说：“他参与法定机构和政府关联公司（GLC）的工作，以及在独立审计委员会和私营部门董事会中担任职务，进一步拓宽了他在治理、管理、问责和诚信方面的经验。”

阿旺·贝米希望穆罕默德·海鲁尔·阿米尔能够凭借其丰富的经验，为履行参议员职责做出建设性贡献。

与此同时，他表示，上议院将继续在加强马来西亚议会制度方面发挥关键作用，包括通过实施《2025 年议会服务法》，该法除其他事项外，旨在加强权力分立原则，并提高议会制衡机制的有效性。

他表示，此举对于加强议会的自主性和地位至关重要，使议会能够在国家民主制度内有效、独立和可信地履行其职责。

他说：“我们希望上议院成为一个能够表达人民和各州关切、审查国家政策和立法、并加强议会民主制度内制衡原则的机构。”

根据国会日程，马来西亚上议院将于11月30日至12月22日召开第十五届国会第五届会议第三次会议。——马新社
