Woman, 76, and man, 40, handed multiple domestic worker abuse charges in unrelated cases

Tay Seok Kheng and Mohamad Azwan Sohaimi face multiple assault charges after they allegedly abused their domestic helpers in separate cases.

Tay is accused of committing the offences between October 2024 and March 2025, while Azwan allegedly abused his helper in early 2026.

Their cases have been adjourned to October.

SINGAPORE - Two people, each accused of abusing a domestic worker in unrelated cases, were handed multiple assault charges on Sept 29.

Tay Seok Kheng, 76, was handed 13 charges including 10 counts of assaulting her helper . She was also charged with harassment, using criminal force against the woman, and performing a rash act to endanger the latter’s safety.

Mohamad Azwan Sohaimi, 40, faces three charges .

According to court documents, Tay allegedly pinched the helper’s hand on Oct 27, 2024.

The two women were at a market in Ang Mo Kio on March 5, 2025, when Tay allegedly pinched her hand again. She is accused of committing a similar act on the helper the next day.

Tay was in a vehicle at a multi-storey carpark in Yishun Avenue 1 on March 8, 2025, when she allegedly performed a rash act by reversing it towards the woman.

She is also accused of abusing the helper with vulgar language, and assaulting the latter by pulling her hair and slapping her that day.

Tay was in a lift of a Yishun block of flats at around 8am on March 9 that year when she allegedly slapped the woman .

The two women were in a lift at the same block about four hours later when she purportedly used slippers to hit the domestic worker’s face.

Tay is said to have slapped her again at around 5.30pm that day.

She is accused of pinching the helper’s left wrist and slapping her on March 11, 2025.

Tay also allegedly used a walking stick to hit the woman’s head the next day.

She purportedly slapped the helper in a Yishun flat on March 16, 2025.

Her case will be mentioned again on Oct 28.

In an unrelated case, Azwan was handed three assault charges involving his helper .

He allegedly kicked her left hip twice in a Woodlands flat between January and March 2026.

Azwan was in the same unit on March 9 when he purportedly pushed the bottom of a mop against the woman’s head.

He is also accused of using his palm to strike her right shoulder, causing her to lose her balance and hit a wall.

He is said to have abused the helper again when they were in the flat three days later.

This time, Azwan allegedly slapped her head, kicked her left hip and used a 500ml plastic bottle to hit her head.

His case has been adjourned to Oct 27.

For each count of assaulting a domestic worker, an offender can be jailed for up to six years, fined up to $10,000 or both.

2025年3月5日，两名女子在宏茂桥的一个市场时，Tay据称再次掐了其中一名女佣的手。她被指控第二天对这名女佣实施了类似的行为。

2025年3月8日，Tay在义顺1道的一个多层停车场内，据称她鲁莽地将车倒向一名女子。

她还被指控用粗俗的语言辱骂帮佣，并在当天拽她的头发、扇她耳光，对她进行人身攻击。

据称，当年 3 月 9 日上午 8 点左右，Tay 在义顺一栋组屋的电梯里打了那名女子一巴掌。

大约四个小时后，两名女子在同一栋楼的电梯里，据称其中一人用拖鞋打了家政工人的脸。

据称，当天下午 5 点 30 分左右，Tay 又打了她一巴掌。

她被指控于 2025 年 3 月 11 日掐住帮工的左手腕并打了她一巴掌。

据称，第二天，Tay 还用拐杖击打了该女子的头部。

据称，她在2025年3月16日于义顺的一间组屋里打了女佣一巴掌。

她的案件将于10月28日再次开庭审理。

在另一起案件中，阿兹万被控三项袭击罪名，涉及他的助手。

据称，2026 年 1 月至 3 月期间，他在兀兰的一间公寓里两次踢了她的左髋部。

3月9日，阿兹万在同一间牢房里，据称他用拖把底部抵住该女子的头部。

他还被指控用手掌击打她的右肩，导致她失去平衡撞到墙上。

据说三天后，当他们再次回到公寓时，他又一次虐待了这名帮佣。

这一次，据称阿兹万打了她的头，踢了她的左臀，还用一个 500 毫升的塑料瓶打了她的头。

他的案件已延期至10月27日审理。

每项殴打家政工人的罪名，犯罪者可被判处最高六年监禁，并处以最高 10,000 美元的罚款，或两者并罚。
