The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) inked an agreement with its Brunei counterpart on maritime and port cooperation on Tuesday (Sept 29).
It was signed by MPA chief executive Ang Wee Keong and his counterpart Zil Husam Haji Abdul Rahman on the sidelines of the 12th Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders' Programme .
The annual programme, co-chaired by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Brunei's Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, who is also senior minister in Brunei's Prime Minister's Office, serves to build and deepen ties between the next generation of leaders of the two countries.
Under the agreement, MPA and the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) will strengthen collaboration and exchanges in digitalisation, maritime safety, port state control inspection, incident investigation, training and other areas of mutual interest.
In a joint media statement, they said they aim to promote safe, clean and efficient shipping through their cooperation.
Ang said that the agreement underscores the special friendship and strong partnership between MPA and MPABD, built up over the years.
"This MOU will further strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation and the close ties between Singapore and Brunei Darussalam," he added.
Zil Husam said he looked forward to creating more opportunities for officers from both agencies to exchange knowledge, share experiences and work together in practical areas of maritime and port cooperation.
"We also hope to explore meaningful initiatives that can support further development of both our maritime sectors," he added.
新加坡海事及港务管理局（MPA）于周二（9月29日）与文莱海事及港口管理局签署了一项关于海事和港口合作的协议。
该协议由新加坡海事及港务管理局首席执行官洪伟强和新加坡海事及港务局局长齐尔·胡萨姆·哈吉·阿卜杜勒·拉赫曼在第十二届新加坡-文莱青年领袖计划期间签署。
该年度活动由马来西亚总理黄循财和文莱王储穆赫塔迪·比拉共同主持，穆赫塔迪·比拉同时也是文莱首相府高级部长。该活动旨在建立和深化两国下一代领导人之间的联系。
根据该协议，新加坡海事及港务管理局 (MPA) 和文莱海事及港务管理局 (MPABD) 将加强在数字化、海上安全、港口国监督检查、事故调查、培训和其他共同感兴趣领域的合作与交流。
他们在联合媒体声明中表示，他们的目标是通过合作促进安全、清洁、高效的航运。
Ang表示，该协议凸显了MPA和MPABD之间多年来建立的特殊友谊和牢固伙伴关系。
