SINGAPORE — Brunei Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah met with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Istana on Sept 29, as part of his official visit to Singapore for the 12th Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP).

Billah, who is also Senior Minister at Brunei’s Prime Minister’s Office, was also hosted to lunch by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

SM Lee said in a Facebook post that he had a good catch-up with the Crown Prince, and that the two leaders had a cordial discussion about developments in both countries. They also discussed how Singapore and Brunei can strengthen the special relationship they share.

“Our longstanding partnership has been anchored in close personal ties between leaders on both sides. We must continue nurturing such ties, so that they endure and deepen into the next generation,” said SM Lee.

The lunch was attended by members of the Bruneian delegation, and on the Singapore side by Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat, Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow, Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Zaqy Mohamad, Acting Manpower Minister Jasmin Lau, Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth and Transport Baey Yam Keng, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang.

SM Lee last met Billah when he visited Brunei in July, on the occasion of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s 80th birthday.

Billah is in Singapore for a five-day official visit. Besides co-chairing the YLP, he will be hosted by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and other Singapore leaders, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement on Sept 27.

Launched in 2013, the YLP provides a platform for leaders from both countries to discuss ways to advance their partnership in areas of shared interest, including the digital and green economies, finance, defence and food security.

This is the fourth time that PM Wong and Billah are co-chairing the annual programme.

Billah is accompanied by a delegation comprising Brunei Minister of Transport and Info-Communication Awang Mohammed Riza and senior officials.

His itinerary includes visits to Tuas Port, SAFTI City, Temasek Shophouse, the SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Biodiversity Medicine, Sultan Mosque, the Malay Heritage Centre, the Singapore Oceanarium, Punggol Digital District and the Singapore Institute of Technology, said MFA.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of defence ties between Singapore and Brunei. In 2027, the two countries will commemorate the 60th anniversary of their Currency Interchangeability Agreement.

新加坡——9月29日，文莱王储哈吉·穆赫塔迪·比拉在总统府会见了新加坡总理黄循财，这是他出席第十二届新加坡-文莱青年领袖计划（YLP）并正式访问新加坡的一部分。

比拉同时也是文莱总理公署的高级部长，他还应邀与高级部长李显龙共进午餐。

李显龙总理在脸书上发文称，他与文莱王储进行了愉快的会晤，两位领导人就两国发展情况进行了亲切友好的交流。他们还探讨了新加坡和文莱如何加强两国间的特殊关系。

李显龙总理表示：“我们长期的伙伴关系建立在双方领导人之间密切的私人关系之上。我们必须继续培育这种关系，使其延续并深化到下一代。”

文莱代表团成员出席了午餐会，新加坡方面出席的有国家发展部长徐芳达、交通部长萧正树、主管穆斯林事务的代部长扎基·穆罕默德、人力部代部长刘嘉敏、文化、社区及青年部兼交通部政务部长白炎庆以及外交、贸易和工业部政务部长颜晓煌。

李显龙上一次见到比拉是在7月份访问文莱的时候，当时正值苏丹哈桑纳尔·博尔基亚80岁生日。

比拉正在新加坡进行为期五天的正式访问。新加坡外交部9月27日发表声明称，除了共同主持青年领袖会议外，他还将受到新加坡总统尚达曼和其他新加坡领导人的接待。
