Man jailed two weeks for trespassing at house linked to Sarawak deputy premier’s wife

A 21-year-old man, Haiqal Haqimi Sumardi, was sentenced to two weeks in jail and fined RM1,500, with an alternative of one month's imprisonment, after pleading guilty to trespassing at a house controlled by the wife of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

The Magistrates' Court in Kuching found him guilty under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which allows for penalties of up to six months' imprisonment or a RM3,000 fine, or both.

The incident occurred on September 24 and was part of an attempt to steal items for drugs, with the accused testing positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan.

KUCHING, Sept 30 — A 21-year-old man was sentenced to two weeks’ jail and fined RM1,500 in default one month’s imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here today for trespassing at a house under the control of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan’s wife.

Magistrate Nureina Syafika Mohd Najib meted out the sentence on Haiqal Haqimi Sumardi after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 447 of the Penal Code.

The section provides for imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both.

The offence was committed at 9.50am on September 24 at a single-storey house in Taman Sri Sena under the control of Datuk Dayang Morliah Datuk Awang Daud.

According to the facts of the case, a complainant, who is Dayang Morliah’s brother, noticed the accused entering the house without any permission.

A police report was lodged, and investigations led to the accused’s arrest the following day, September 25.

It is learnt that the incident had gone viral on social media, with the accused believed to have intended to steal items from the house to sell in order to buy drugs.

It is also understood that the accused tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
