600 Kpods seized from car at Woodlands Checkpoint; 2 men charged

Two men, including an 18-year-old teenager, have been charged in court for separate cases involving etomidate vaporiser pods, or Kpods.

Muhammad Adel Dilly Del Mohamed Hanif, 33, was charged on Sept 22 with allegedly importing etomidate vaporiser pods, while 18-year-old Corey Ng Teng Yi, was charged on Sept 24 with allegedly possessing etomidate vaporiser pods for the purpose of supply.

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) said in a press release on Wednesday (Sept 30) that Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers discovered 600 vaporiser pods concealed in Adel's car during enhanced checks at Woodlands Checkpoint.

According to HSA, the pods were wrapped in black plastic packaging and hidden within the frame of the car's centre console.

It added that subsequent laboratory tests confirmed that the seized pods contained etomidate.

Adel's case was mentioned in court again on Wednesday. He was offered bail of $25,000 and the case has been adjourned to Nov 11.

Pods found in deregistered car

Meanwhile, Traffic Police officers found 12 vaporiser pods in a deregistered car at Punggol Field and detained Ng at the scene.

Subsequent laboratory tests also confirmed that the pods contained etomidate, while HSA's investigations revealed that the Kpods were purportedly intended for supply.

Ng was charged on Sept 24 and ordered to be remanded for a week to assist with further investigations.

His case was mentioned in court again on Sept 29, and he was offered bail of $20,000. Ng will return to court again on Oct 27.

The Singapore Police Force is separately investigating Ng for allegedly driving a deregistered car without a licence.

HSA reiterated that it takes a serious view of vaporiser and etomidate import and supply offences.

Under the Tobacco and Vaporisers Control Act, etomidate and ts analogues are listed as specified psychoactive substances in the Schedule.

Upon conviction, importers face a sentence of three to 20 years’ imprisonment and five to 15 strokes of the cane, while suppliers face a sentence of two to 10 years’ imprisonment and up to five strokes of the cane.

与此同时，交通警察在榜鹅坊一辆已注销车辆内查获 12 个电子烟烟弹，并在现场拘留了吴某。

随后的实验室测试也证实，这些胶囊含有依托咪酯，而新加坡卫生科学局的调查显示，这些 Kpods 据称是用于供应的。

吴某于9月24日被控告，并被下令还押一周以协助进一步调查。

他的案件于9月29日再次开庭审理，法官准许他以2万美元保释。吴某将于10月27日再次出庭。

新加坡警方正在对吴某进行单独调查，指控他涉嫌无证驾驶已注销车辆。

HSA重申，对于电子烟和依托咪酯的进口和供应违法行为，HSA将采取严肃态度。

根据《烟草和雾化器管制法》，依托咪酯及其类似物被列入附表，作为特定精神活性物质。

进口商一旦被定罪，将面临 3 至 20 年监禁和 5 至 15 下鞭刑；而供应商一旦被定罪，将面临 2 至 10 年监禁和最多 5 下鞭刑。
