The aircraft descended 17,400 feet in just over two minutes at around 1:20 a.m. ET, flight tracking data shows.
The incident prompted Israel’s prime minister and defense minister to hold a security consultation. Israeli fighter jets were scrambled after the emergency signal was sent, an Israeli military spokesperson told CNN

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has held consultations over the aviation incident between two pilots which forced a plane to divert to Saudi Arabia, his office said Wednesday, adding that the situation was “under control.”
“Due to concerns about an aviation incident, Prime Minister Netanyahu held consultations on the matter and monitored developments,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.
It continued that the situation is “under control,” and all measures are being taken to return the Israeli passengers to Israel.

The aircraft descended 17,400 feet – from 34,000 to around 16,600 feet – over northwestern Saudi Arabia in just over two minutes at around 1:20 a.m. ET, flight tracking data reviewed by CNN shows. The aircraft then transmitted an emergency signal at 1:32 a.m. ET.
