‘Dinner, but no deal yet’: Fahmi says nothing formal between PH and Bersatu for now

Pakatan Harapan (PH) has not initiated formal discussions with Bersatu about potential collaboration for the Melaka state election, despite a recent closed-door meeting.

PH communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil stated that any decision on political cooperation would be made by the coalition's presidential council, and he has not received details on any formal negotiations.

The gathering was described as an informal session to maintain cordial relations, with both parties yet to commence official talks.

Meanwhile, PH is open to discussions with other parties, awaiting an invitation from PAS for further negotiations.

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 30 — Pakatan Harapan has yet to begin formal discussions with Bersatu over possible cooperation for the Melaka state election, despite a closed-door meeting between representatives of both sides earlier this week.

PH communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said any decision on political cooperation would have to be made by the coalition's presidential council, adding that he had not received any information on formal negotiations with Bersatu.

“So far, there have been no developments (on the cooperation). I have yet to receive any information on the matter,” he told reporters yesterday.

His comments came after PH and Bersatu leaders attended a closed-door dinner in Melaka on Monday night, fuelling speculation that the two sides could be exploring an electoral arrangement ahead of the state election.

However, acting Melaka PKR chairman Adam Adli Abdul Halim described the gathering as an opportunity to maintain cordial ties, while Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said it was an informal session to get to know one another and exchange views.

PH has also indicated that it is open to discussions with other parties, with Adam saying the coalition was still waiting for PAS to extend an invitation for talks.

“PAS is the only one that has not invited us yet and I am waiting too,” he was reported as saying.

The developments come as political parties consider their respective electoral arrangements before the Election Commission meets on October 7 to determine key dates for the 16th Melaka state election.

The EC said the special meeting will decide, among other matters, the writ of election, nomination day, polling day and the electoral roll to be used.

The Melaka state assembly was dissolved on September 23.

然而，马六甲人民公正党代理主席亚当·阿德利·阿卜杜勒·哈利姆将此次聚会描述为维持友好关系的机会，而土著团结党新闻主任拿督敦·费萨尔·伊斯梅尔·阿齐兹则表示，这是一次非正式的会面，旨在相互了解和交流意见。

希望联盟也表示愿意与其他政党进行讨论，亚当表示，该联盟仍在等待伊斯兰党发出会谈邀请。

据报道，他表示：“伊斯兰党是唯一一个还没有邀请我们的政党，我也在等待邀请。”

在选举委员会于 10 月 7 日召开会议确定第 16 届马六甲州选举的关键日期之前，各政党正在考虑各自的选举安排。

选举委员会表示，特别会议将决定选举令、提名日、投票日以及将使用的选民名册等事项。

马六甲州议会于9月23日解散。
