Pump pressure is mounting in Singapore, with Chinese state-owned Sinopec becoming the latest fuel retailer to raise petrol prices on Thursday (Oct 1).

In a price board update posted at its stations on Thursday afternoon, Sinopec announced that it had raised prices across its petrol offerings — 95-octane, 95-octane and premium petrol — by 5 cents each, while keeping diesel prices unchanged.

The move mirrors Esso's upward adjustment on Sept 30 , and increases announced by both Shell and Caltex a day earlier .

Following the latest round of hikes, the price of the more popular 95-octane petrol at the five major fuel companies now ranges from $3.48 per litre at SPC, to $3.54 per litre at Caltex, Esso, Shell and Sinopec.

During the last round of adjustments between Sept 14 and 20, SPC was also the last among the major fuel companies to raise its prices.

Prices are correct as at 5.45pm on Oct 1. All prices are before discounts.

The new front-month December Brent crude futures contract traded at US$100.71 per barrel at 5.55pm (Singapore time) on Thursday, rising 2.68 per cent from Wednesday.

This came after China announced on Thursday that it would suspend exports of oil products to regions beyond Hong Kong and Macau until further notice from Beijing.

Meanwhile, investors remain wary as US-Iran talks aimed at ending the war have yet to achieve significant breakthroughs.
