An unfortunate incident in Felda Jelai resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man when a utility pole fell on him as he rode his motorcycle, following an interaction with a trailer lorry.

Preliminary investigations revealed the lorry might have snagged a utility cable, causing the pole to topple.

The motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and succumbed while receiving treatment.

The lorry driver is being detained, and the case is under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

TAMPIN, Oct 2 — An elderly man was killed after a utility pole fell on him at Felda Jelai here yesterday.

District police chief Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the incident involved the 61-year-old victim, who was riding a motorcycle, and a trailer lorry driven by a 40-year-old man.

He said preliminary investigations found that the victim was travelling from Felda Jelai 3 towards the Felda Jelai Health Clinic, while the lorry was believed to have been exiting a junction from Felda Jelai 4.

“As the lorry was leaving the junction, it is believed to have become caught on a utility cable, causing a pole on the opposite side of the road to topple onto the motorcyclist,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the victim sustained serious head injuries and died while receiving treatment at the Felda Jelai Health Clinic.

The trailer lorry driver was detained to assist in the investigation, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he added. — Bernama
