PAS, under the leadership of Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, has firmly declined any political alliance with Pakatan Harapan for the upcoming Melaka state election, favoring partnerships that promote a Malay-Muslim government.

While PAS is prepared to use its traditional moon symbol amid potential logo restrictions following Perikatan Nasional's suspension, the party remains open to dialogue with Barisan Nasional, citing grassroots support for collaboration.

Seat negotiations with allied parties are reportedly progressing smoothly, focusing on consensus-driven decisions.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — PAS is adamant in rejecting any political cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the Melaka state election, while staying open to electoral pacts that ensure a Malay-Muslim administration in the state, said party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Speaking to reporters at Masjid Rusila in Marang, Terengganu today, Abdul Hadi said that seat negotiations among allies are progressing smoothly based on consensus, Sinar Harian reported.

“What matters is that Melaka is led by Malay-Muslim leadership. We reject Pakatan Harapan,” he said.

The Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on September 23, paving the way for snap state polls.

Addressing potential logo restrictions following the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) recent suspension of Perikatan Nasional (PN) activities, Abdul Hadi confirmed that PAS is fully prepared to contest under its traditional moon symbol if necessary.

“We can use the PAS logo too, no problem,” he said, noting that the party is assessing the situation to ensure a smooth campaign.

The logo issue emerged after the RoS issued an order under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 on September 24, temporarily freezing all PN activities to protect the coalition’s interests pending internal constitutional compliance.

On potential collaboration with Barisan Nasional (BN), Abdul Hadi dismissed suggestions of friction despite claims that some state leaders were “dragging their feet” over formal pacts, leaving the decision to the respective party leaderships.

However, the Marang MP claimed that grassroots sentiment among BN supporters remains receptive to uniting with PAS for the state election.

“I find that most Barisan Nasional (supporters) agree with cooperation with PAS... if BN wants to request that cooperation, we agree, everything through discussion,” he said.
