Malaysia has equaled its best-ever gold medal count at the Asian Games, with nine golds secured, including triumphs by track cyclist Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang and the men's and women's squash teams.

This matches their 2010 record, with opportunities remaining in the men's doubles padel and men's hockey finals to set a new milestone.

Notably, Azizulhasni's keirin gold marks his last participation in the Asian Games, concluding with a total of three golds, one silver, and two bronzes.

NAGOYA, Oct 3 — Malaysia matched its best-ever gold medal haul at the Asian Games after securing three golds on Day 14 of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games, taking its tally to nine with two more opportunities to set a new record today.

The three golds came from track cycling ace Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang in the men’s keirin, as well as the women’s and men’s squash teams in their respective team events.

The haul saw Malaysia match the nine gold medals won at the Guangzhou 2010 edition, with the national contingent now one gold away from setting a new record at the Games.

Two opportunities to make history will come today through the men’s doubles padel and men’s hockey finals.

The Christian Didier Chin-Aidan Yunus partnership will compete in the men’s padel final, marking the sport’s debut at the Asian Games, while the Speedy Tigers will face defending champions India for the men’s hockey gold.

The two team squash golds added to the individual titles won by S. Sivasangari and Ng Eain Yow, taking Malaysia’s gold medal tally in squash at the Games to four.

For Azizulhasni, the keirin gold marked his final Asian Games appearance, with a haul of three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

One victory in either of today’s two finals would be enough for the national contingent to record its highest-ever gold medal haul at the Games before the curtain comes down on Sunday. — Bernama
