In a tragic accident near the Pulau Dudong Roundabout in Sibu, a husband and wife were killed when their car collided with a four-wheel-drive pickup truck.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department responded promptly, extricating the trapped victims who were later pronounced dead by paramedics.

The occupants of the pickup truck received minor injuries, while the collision circumstances remain under investigation.

The incident is being examined under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

SIBU, Oct 4 — A husband and wife were killed after the car they were travelling in collided with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) pickup truck near the Pulau Dudong Roundabout along Jalan Dudong here yesterday afternoon.

The collision left the car badly damaged, while the pickup truck overturned and came to rest on its side against the car.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 Sibu chief Andy Alie said the incident was reported at about 4.15pm, with firefighters from Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station arriving at the scene at 4.22pm.

He said the two victims in the car were found trapped and unconscious inside the vehicle.

“Firefighters used rescue tools and a stretcher to extricate both victims from the vehicle.

“Paramedics from Sibu Hospital later confirmed that both victims had succumbed to their injuries,” he said.

The driver was identified as Julaihi Raduan, 52, and his wife, Marliza Salleh, 49.

Andy said the five occupants of the pickup truck – two adults and three children – sustained minor injuries and received initial treatment from paramedics at the scene.

He said the two vehicles were believed to have collided head-on, although the exact circumstances of the crash remained under investigation.

The bodies of the two victims were later handed over to police for further action.

Six firefighters and one Fire Rescue Tender from Sibu Jaya Bomba Station were involved in the operation.

Meanwhile, Sibu police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
