As of 9am on October 4, air quality reached unhealthy levels in six areas of Johor and one area in Sarawak, Malaysia, according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).

Batu Pahat recorded the highest API reading of 156, with other areas in Johor and Samarahan in Sarawak also experiencing similar levels.

Additionally, 57 areas reported moderate air quality, while three locations maintained good air quality readings.

The API scale categorizes zero to 50 as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, and 101 to 200 as unhealthy.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 — Six areas in Johor and one in Sarawak recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at unhealthy levels as of 9am today.

Based on data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) of the Department of Environment, Batu Pahat recorded the highest reading at 156, followed by Segamat (154), Kluang and Tangkak (152), Larkin (148) and Pasir Gudang (126).

In Sarawak, Samarahan recorded a reading of 152.

Fifty-seven areas recorded moderate API readings, while three areas were at good levels, namely Sandakan (45), Langkawi (37) and Kangar (32).

The API reading for the Kota Kinabalu station was unavailable at that time.

API readings of zero to 50 are categorised as good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and above 300 (hazardous). — Bernama
