Air Kelantan: Pipe leak cuts water supply in Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kota Bharu Selatan, affecting 34,000 accounts

A leak in a raw water pipe has halved capacity at the Merbau Chondong Water Treatment Plant, disrupting supply for nearly 34,000 accounts across three districts.

Repair work on the water pipe started yesterday and is expected to last nine days, with water supply possibly restored by September 14.

Air Kelantan has mobilised water tankers to assist affected consumers, prioritising critical premises and informing the public via various communication platforms.

KOTA BHARU, Sept 5 — Production capacity at the Merbau Chondong Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Machang has dropped by almost half following a leak in a 1,000-millimetre Glass-Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GRP) raw water pipe, said Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB).

In a statement today, AKSB said the incident had disrupted water supply in three districts, namely Machang, parts of Pasir Puteh and Kota Bharu Selatan, affecting almost 34,000 consumer accounts.

The company said repair work began at about 11 pm yesterday and was expected to be completed within nine days.

“Water supply is expected to be restored as early as Sept 14. AKSB is also mobilising water tankers to assist affected consumers, while water operators from other states have also agreed to send tankers to the affected areas,” AKSB said.

Priority will be given to critical premises, including hospitals, dialysis centres, prisons and higher education institution hostels.

AKSB said it had notified consumers of the incident via the Infoblast system through PINTAS Careline 15777 and would continue to provide updates on the situation.
