A 39-year-old self-employed woman reported losing approximately RM150, including her BUDI Madani RON95 petrol subsidy and reward points, due to a phone scam by someone impersonating a Touch 'n Go representative.

The scam involved the fraudulent offer of a new card with enticing benefits, leading to unauthorized access to her e-wallet.

Mohamad Yusrizal Yusoff, president of the Kedah Consumers Association (Cake), confirmed the incident and urged the victim to notify both the police and Touch 'n Go.

He also warned the public to be cautious of unsolicited phone offers as several other individuals have reported similar scams.

ALOR SETAR, Oct 5 — A 39-year-old self-employed woman lost about RM150, including her BUDI Madani RON95 (BUDI95) petrol subsidy and reward points, after a phone scammer posing as a Touch ‘n Go representative compromised her e-wallet.

Kedah Consumers Association (Cake) president Mohamad Yusrizal Yusoff said the victim lodged a report at the association’s office yesterday.

“The victim said the caller offered her a new Touch ‘n Go card with various perks, including reward points, store vouchers offering discounts of up to 80 per cent, and overseas spending capabilities.

“After she agreed to apply for the card, the caller instructed her to open her Touch ‘n Go e-wallet application and follow specific instructions,” he said in a statement today.

He added that without her knowledge, the fraudster took over the application and accessed her account.

“Cake has advised her to report the matter to both the police and Touch ‘n Go.

“Several other individuals have since come forward stating they were also targeted. Cake advises the public to exercise caution regarding unsolicited telephone offers, as fraudsters are resorting to various tricks to deceive people,” he said. — Bernama
