A 21-year-old warehouse worker pleaded not guilty to riding a motorcycle under the influence, injuring two people during a running event in Kuala Lumpur.

Charged under the Road Transport Act, the offence carries up to 10 years' imprisonment and a RM50,000 fine, with driving licence disqualification.

The court set bail at RM500 with surety for each charge, with the case mention scheduled for January 7, 2027.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 —An e-commerce platform warehouse worker pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to two charges of riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol, causing injuries to two participants of a running event last Saturday.

Muhammad Saiful Sabinee, 21, was charged with riding a motorcycle against the flow of traffic with an alcohol level of 184 milligrams (mg) per 100 millilitres (ml) of blood, resulting in injuries to Mazni Lamin, 50, and Azwan Ibrahim, 41, on Jalan Munshi, near a clothing store here, at 6.14 am on Oct 3.

The charges were framed under Section 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a minimum prison sentence of seven years and a maximum of 10 years, as well as a fine of up to RM50,000, upon conviction.

The provision also stipulates that a person convicted may be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a period of not less than seven years from the date of conviction.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurbatrisyia Mohd Razib proposed bail of RM10,000 with one surety for each charge, noting that the accused did not possess a driving licence.

Lawyer Muhammad Iqbal Azmi from the National Legal Aid Foundation, representing Muhammad Saiful, appealed for a bail reduction, saying that his client was single and earned RM1,500 a month.

“My client has four siblings, one of whom is still in school, and his mother is present today to act as his surety,” he said.

Magistrate Aliaa Anwar granted Muhammad Saiful bail of RM500 with one surety for each charge and set Jan 7, 2027, for case mention and submission of documents. — Bernama
