Thailand’s Economy on a growth trajectory – PM Anutin

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed confidence in Thailand’s third-quarter economic growth, pointing to positive indicators such as rising exports and favorable credit ratings from major international agencies.

He noted that official GDP metrics are being finalized by the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC). Additionally, Thailand is set to host the 2026 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings next week, bringing financial leaders and delegates from 191 nations, which is expected to bolster economic activity and boost investor confidence in the final quarter.

In preparation for the landmark international event, PM Anutin chaired a national committee meeting to ensure seamless logistics across key sectors, including airport operations, visa processing, security, and public health.

He instructed Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) and partner airlines to establish fast-track channels and resolve potential bottlenecks to prevent flight delays or luggage issues. Furthermore, the government remains open to introducing targeted economic stimulus measures in the fourth quarter as necessary to meet annual GDP targets.

Tourism Numbers Continue to Head South

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports reported 23,452,895 foreign tourist arrivals from January 1 to October 3, 2026, marking a 3.88% drop compared to the same period last year. Tourism revenue also fell 2.26% to 1.14 trillion baht.

The top five sources of foreign tourists were:

However, weekly tourist arrivals rebounded by 8.24% over the past week, driven by long holiday breaks in short-haul markets. China’s Golden Week surged Chinese visitors by 41.98%, alongside increased travel from Hong Kong and South Korea due to national holidays. While recent flooding in Bangkok led to minor flight cancellations, it had minimal direct impact on overall tourism, though arrivals are expected to slow next week as holiday periods conclude.

Oil Fund nearly in 100 billion Baht in the RED

On October 5, 2026, the Fuel Fund Executive Committee announced adjustments to fuel subsidies and fund contributions, effective October 6, 2026. Subsidies for diesel products were reduced, with B7 cut by 0.86 baht to 2.66 baht/liter and B20 cut by 0.84 baht to 6.82 baht/liter. Premium contributions for unleaded gasoline increased by 0.52 baht to 1.66 baht/liter.

Subsidies across gasohol blends were also trimmed: Gasohol 95 and 91 decreased by 0.48 baht to 4.89 baht/liter, E20 dropped by 0.59 baht to 7.89 baht/liter, and E85 saw a 0.13-baht reduction to 2.54 baht/liter.

As of October 4, 2026, the Oil Fuel Fund is in a deficit of 98,842 million baht, comprising a 58,429-million-baht deficit in the oil account and a 40,513-million-baht deficit in the LPG account.

Nantapong Chiralerspong, Director-General of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office under the Ministry of Commerce, will announce Thailand’s inflation rate for September and the average for the first nine months today at 10:30 AM via Facebook Live. In August 2026, headline inflation rose by 2.53%, reaching a three-month high due to surging fuel prices driven by Middle East conflicts, alongside broad price increases in prepared meals, fresh food, eggs, chicken, and produce spurred by enhanced consumer purchasing power from the “Thai Chuay Thai Plus” scheme.

Consequently, average headline inflation for the first eight months (Jan–Aug) of 2026 increased by 1.37% year-on-year. Meanwhile, core inflation—which excludes fresh food and energy—rose 1.44% month-on-month in August 2026, bringing the eight-month core inflation increase to 0.94% compared to the same period last year.

Thai Airways’ Customer Data up for Sale in ‘Dark Web’

Social media reports are emerging that the data of nearly 200 million passengers who are customers of Thai Airways International Plc (THAI) are now available on the ‘Dark Web’ but for a price.

Dark Web Intelligence reported that an individual on an underground forum is allegedly offering more than 200 million records claimed to belong to Thai Airways. The seller claims the dataset includes booking, ticketing and baggage information; frequent-flyer membership data; payment, customer service and digital records; as well as operational data.

However, Dark Web Intelligence emphasized that the claim has not yet been verified and does not indicate that Thai Airways’ systems have been breached. The situation remains subject to confirmation from Thai Airways, which is expected to clarify whether the data is genuine or whether the individual is simply making an unsubstantiated claim.

Data leaked reportedly include details of Booking / ticketing / baggage fields (claimed) / Loyalty program data (claimed) / Payment / customer-service / digital-log fields (claimed) / Operational data (claimed) Claimed scope: 200M+ records (2026 listing claim).

Fact Finding Committee on Baggage Fiasco at Thai Airways

Thai Airways International Plc is establishing a new fact-finding committee chaired by board member Pol Gen Thatchai Pitaneelaboot to investigate recent operational disruptions, including a massive baggage backlog and widespread flight cancellations during a flood crisis.

The 30-day inquiry will focus on the airline’s crisis handling and assess whether ground staffing levels were sufficient. A major aspect of the investigation will center on manpower allocation by WingSpan Services Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary created to manage outsourced labor and reduce management costs, particularly after severe flooding prevented numerous employees from reaching work.

WingSpan Services, established on December 2, 2010, following a resolution by the Thai Airways board, was created to provide outsourced manpower management and recruitment services for Thai Airways and other businesses in the aviation sector.

The concept originated under former Thai Airways president Piyasvasti Amranand, with WingSpan intended to manage ground-service labour and recruit and develop personnel for various operations within the Thai Airways group, while helping the airline reduce internal staffing and management costs.

800+ million Baht of Wine Procurement is a Different Case for Thai Airways

The new fact-finding panel will be separate from an earlier committee established to investigate the procurement of 860,000 bottles of wine involving a former Thai Airways chief executive.

In a statement on his social media page the ‘suspended’ President of Thai Airways – Chai Eamsiri, has come out to say that he strongly denies allegations of corruption or interference in Thai Airways’ wine procurement process. Chai says that all procurement follows established regulations and is subject to internal and external audits, emphasizing a 41-year career without corruption allegations.

Chai said he welcomed any official investigation, reject media speculation, and say he will not tolerate accusations of corruption. They also ask followers to avoid drama or disrespectful comments on their page and state that they will not accept apology gifts for inappropriate behavior.

Netherland Embassy Land Sold for 20 billion Baht

The Piyasombatkul family, shareholders of the Nirvana Development Plc (NVD), has reportedly completed the acquisition of the approximately 20-rai former Netherlands Embassy site on Wireless Road–Soi Ton Son in central Bangkok for more than 20 billion Baht. The prime plot is considered one of the few remaining large parcels in the area, where land prices can reach around 4 million Baht per square wah.

The family is expected to develop the site as a large-scale mixed-use project, potentially worth more than 100 billion Baht, complementing its existing properties around Langsuan, Ton Son, Rama 9 and Thonglor.

The site’s development potential is particularly high under Bangkok’s proposed revised city plan, expected to take effect in 2027. The land is designated for commercial development, with a FAR of 10:1 and few restrictions on the types of projects that can be built.

New Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Industry set to be approved today

Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa is expected to propose the appointment of Passakorn Chairat, currently Deputy Permanent Secretary, as the new Permanent Secretary for Industry during the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. The proposal follows the official royal command publishing the transfer of Nattapol Rangsitpol from the top Ministry post to become Prime Minister’s Advisor for Senior Civil Servants. Mr. Passakorn has recently taken on key duties representing the ministry leadership and has four to five years remaining before his retirement.

Upon taking office, the new Permanent Secretary will face several pressing priorities, including pushing for amendments to the Factory Act and drafting the Industrial Waste Management Act to update business regulations. Additionally, Passakorn will be tasked with tackling the illegal import of substandard products lacking Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) certification and addressing ongoing standards issues surrounding local steel manufacturing.

The SET Index closed yesterday at 1,576.45 points, up 4.83 points (0.31%), with a trading value of 55,047.95 million baht. The index rose slightly as expected; although US employment figures came in below market forecasts, US bond yields remained high, limiting the index’s upside potential. Key pressures included concerns over Middle East tensions, persistently high oil prices, and worries regarding fiscal health and bond supply. Meanwhile, the electronics sector—particularly DELTA—helped provide some support to the index.

For today, the Thai stock market is expected to remain in a consolidation phase, trading sideways. From a technical perspective, there is potential for a rebound, though the upside remains limited due to a lack of clear market-driving catalysts.

Investors should continue to monitor the domestic flood situation, US economic data releases, and the Federal Reserve meeting minutes (Fed Minutes) scheduled for this week. The support range is estimated at 1,565–1,560 points, with resistance at 1,585–1,590 points.

Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) President Asadej Kongsiri explained that foreign capital outflows were driven by rising US bond yields, energy issues, and domestic flooding concerns regarding potential non-performing loans (NPLs). However, Thailand’s macroeconomic fundamentals remain solid, and listed companies on both the SET and mai have seen minimal impact from the floods, as most affected businesses are smaller, unlisted firms. Analysts also maintain that key economic sectors and value chains remain resilient, with exports expected to sustain growth.

Regarding investor sentiment, roadshows in Japan, the US, and the UK revealed that major institutional funds continue to view Thailand as a long-term investment destination. Foreign investors are primarily focused on long-term policies, clean energy transitions, and Board of Investment (BOI) incentives rather than daily market fluctuations. Despite heavy selling pressure in late September due to flood concerns, foreign investors remain net buyers of over 20.69 billion baht year-to-date as of early October 2026.

On October 5, 2026, foreign investors were net sellers in the Thai stock market, offloading a total of 2.257 billion baht. Despite the overall selling trend, trading activity via Non-Voting Depository Receipt (NVDR) accounts revealed significant net buying concentrated in select large-cap stocks. Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) and True Corporation (TRUE) emerged as the top two stocks with the highest net buying value through NVDR.

CPF recorded the highest net buy through NVDR at 3.196 billion baht with an average share price of 20.90 baht, followed by TRUE with 1.21 billion baht at an average price of 12.86 baht. Other notable net buys included Gulf Development (GULF) at 147.56 million baht, Kiatnakin Phatra Bank (KKP) at 111.22 million baht, and Star Petroleum Refining (SPRC) at 98.61 million baht. This indicates that foreign funds selectively targeted specific large-cap shares via NVDR despite the broader net selling sentiment in the market.

Siam Piwat plans to invest 10 billion baht to develop ICONPHUKET, a retail and entertainment complex slated to open in Phuket in 2029 as the company’s first project outside Bangkok. CEO Chadatip Chutrakul revealed that the complex will allocate one-third of its area to 12 entertainment attractions and 40% to green spaces and outdoor gardens, while integrating eco-friendly technologies and energy management systems. Additionally, the project will serve as a platform to showcase local products, art, and culture from Thailand’s 14 southern provinces.

ICONPHUKET will form part of CV Group’s 50-billion-baht “Synthesis Ark Phuket,” a mega mixed-use smart city development covering over 500 rai in Thalang district that includes residences, offices, hotels, an international school, and a health center. The broader development’s initial phase is targeted for completion in 2032 and is projected to generate between 50,000 and 80,000 jobs.

Thailand has emerged as one of the top five global destinations for production relocation, driven by its status as a geopolitical “safe haven” and its strict political neutrality, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas.

Citing recent World Bank and IMF studies, he noted that investment applications under the Board of Investment (BOI) jumped 40% year-on-year to 1.47 trillion baht, attracting major global tech players across key sectors such as AI, advanced electronics, optical transmitters, printed circuit boards (PCB), semiconductors, and electric vehicles (EV).

To capitalize on this momentum, the government is executing the “STI” strategy: Stabilize Today, Transition Now, and Invest for Tomorrow. The framework aims to maintain fiscal discipline to uphold financial stability, accelerate a shift toward clean energy (such as solar power) to cut costly fuel imports, and invest heavily in human capital development through initiatives like the Skill Bridge program to support small and medium-sized enterprises.

Thai PBS and the plans to change its source of funding

Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the proposal by Bhumjai Thai Party MP Suphachai Jaismut to amend the law regarding funding sources for Thai PBS, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), the Elderly Fund, and the National Sports Development Fund. The proposed change would shift their funding mechanism from direct sin tax allocations to the standard central budget system. Anutin stated that the matter is currently following parliamentary procedures and noted that he has not yet discussed it with Suphachai.

When asked by reporters whether the proposed amendment could be perceived as media interference, the Prime Minister declined to answer, merely laughing before walking directly into the Thai Khu Fah Building.

No plans to lower ‘Sin Taxes’

Ministry of Finance refuted reports that amending tax laws would reduce taxes for liquor and tobacco producers. Pornchai Thiravej, Director-General of the Excise Department, clarified that the government will restructure the 2% “sin tax” surcharge—which currently generates over 14 billion baht annually directly for four specific public funds and agencies, including Thai PBS and Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth)—by converting it into a standard excise tax rate.

Consequently, businesses will pay the same total tax amount, but revenues will now flow directly into the national treasury to reinforce fiscal discipline.

Under the proposed legal adjustment, the four agencies will transition to requesting their funding through the standard annual national budget process, as governed by the State Budget Procedure Act. This reform aligns with government policies to return revenues from socially impactful goods to state coffers. Over the past four fiscal years (2022–2025), this 2% surcharge accumulated over 58 billion baht, primarily distributed among the Elderly Fund, the National Sports Development Fund, ThaiHealth, and Thai PBS.

Meanwhile Boonlert Kachayudhadej, a member of the Thai PBS Policy Board, called for a major reform of the organization on Facebook, warning that it might soon be too late. He revealed that Thai PBS relies on up to 2 billion baht annually in sin tax funding, which is primarily spent on rising personnel costs for nearly 1,300 employees, alongside questionable executive decisions such as hiring retirees as coaches for 100,000 baht a month and special experts for nearly 300,000 baht a month.

He questioned the organization’s efficiency, pointing out that smaller news outlets with only 10 to 20 staff members deliver highly engaging, prominent coverage, whereas Thai PBS heavily outscores its budget on expensive external production companies and program hosts. Furthermore, Boonlert noted that Thai PBS actually operates on 2.6 to 2.8 billion baht annually when factoring in additional revenues like network fees. He urged Thai PBS to face its internal issues and reform immediately, criticizing its wasteful spending of sin tax money under the guise of transparency.

Bhumjai Thai Party MP from Chumpon and Revelation of her Husband’s background

The “CSI LA” page posted stating that if MP “Dear” is unaware of her partner’s business activities, public evidence from Crunchbase clearly indicates his involvement in an online gambling business called “Shuffle.”

This platform facilitates casino games and sports betting while supporting cryptocurrency transactions—a system that makes it very easy for criminals to use it as a channel for money laundering.

The post further revealed that Shuffle operates under the “GambleFi” (Gamble Finance) model, characterizing it as a crypto-gambling site that could potentially be exploited by fraudsters to move illicit funds.

Anutin addressed the case of Rangsiman Rome, a party-list MP from the People’s Party, who claimed to have information that Suchada Zhang Thaensap’s husband was involved with scammers, stating that everything is proceeding according to legal procedures. Even if it’s someone within the party, the legal process must take its course. If someone breaks the law, they must defend themselves, and if someone is judged, they must follow the legal process.

When asked if Suchada said she received encouragement from the Prime Minister, Anutin said that he encourages everyone in the party. When asked whether the news surrounding Suchada was an attempt to obstruct a party member from becoming a minister, Anutin did not answer the question.

Lawyer Noraset Nanongtum submitted a formal request to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to investigate the asset declaration of Suchada Zhang Thaensap, a Chaiyaphum MP from the Bhumjai Thai Party. The disclosure previously submitted to the NACC on March 15, 2026, listed a single Rolex watch but made no mention of a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona.

However, upon reviewing her Facebook and Instagram accounts, Noraset discovered images of her wearing a watch resembling a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona—a model valued at approximately 3 million baht. He therefore requested an investigation into whether this constitutes the submission of a false asset declaration or the concealment of facts that should have been disclosed.

He attached supporting evidence, including photos of her wearing the watch on January 20 and 30, and February 4, 6, and 9, 2026; some of these photos also featured Chaichanok Chidchob, the Minister of Digital Economy and Society.

When asked how he would respond if it were claimed that the watch belonged to a friend, Noraset referred to past news reports where Suchada was questioned about the watch’s ownership. She did not explicitly deny or confirm ownership, stating only that she had already fully declared her assets. Regarding the holding of assets on behalf of another—which is considered a debt requiring repayment—it is believed that the NACC will also take the aforementioned Supreme Court judgment into consideration.

Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, Interior Minister, and leader of the Bhumjai Thai Party, dismissed political speculation surrounding his attendance at the birthday celebration of Buriram United president Newin Chidchob. Anutin emphasized that he attends the event every year as a family-like tradition featuring religious and local ceremonies, insisting there was nothing unusual about his presence.

Regarding Newin’s birthday wish for him to serve two more terms as Prime Minister, to which Anutin jokingly replied that he was already “bored” of the role, he clarified that it was merely affectionate banter between brothers. When pressed by reporters on whether he was truly tired of the position, Anutin declined to answer directly, responding only with a smile and a soft chuckle while brushing off rumors created by people with “too much free time.”

At the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), Police Colonel Kob Atjanakitti, a Senator, submitted a petition on behalf of five senators to the NACC President. The petition requests an investigation into Sittichot Intharawiset—a member of the Election Commission (EC) who cast a minority vote in the Senate selection collusion case—regarding his disclosure of information concerning the meeting deliberations, resolutions, and reasoning within the case file. This conduct allegedly constitutes a serious breach of ethical standards and malfeasance in office, in violation of Articles 234 and 235 of the Constitution.

Prominent academic Prof. Theerayuth Boonmee analyzed Thailand’s political landscape into three core factions: the youth, the regional patronage networks (“Ban Yai”), and the conservative establishment. Speaking at event marking Thai Post’s 30th anniversary, he noted that the younger generation comprises about a third of voters and demands rapid structural reform.

Meanwhile, lower-income voters continue to align with local patronage networks and populist policies, whereas the conservative faction—characterized as “low vote, high profile”—retains significant power to shape pivotal political outcomes despite limited electoral support.

Prof. Theerayuth further assessed Thailand’s economic development, warning that the country faces severe structural traps due to a historical lack of self-owned technology, innovation, and educational reform focused on industrial development.

He pointed out that while Thailand is a “failed nation” in terms of policy and structural stagnation, it has not yet become a failed state; however, if the deep income inequality and poverty issues remain unaddressed over the coming years, they will inevitably trigger major social and political upheaval.

The Criminal Court has approved a police request to detain Atchariya Ruangrattanapong, chairman of the Crime Victims Assistance Club, for 12 days through October 16 while denying his bail application. Authorities opposed bail over concerns that the 59-year-old activist could tamper with evidence or witnesses as investigators expand their probe into an online boxing betting network involving roughly 1 billion baht in circulation.

Atchariya, who was arrested on Saturday, faces charges including public fraud, money laundering, illegal gambling, and entering false data into a computer system. Police allege he siphoned over 360 million baht through his club’s donation account and personal account to fund online sports betting, whereas he denies all charges, claiming the club’s finances have operated through his personal account for more than 12 years.

The Student Council of Thammasat University has named jailed pro-democracy activist Jatupat “Pai Dao Din” Boonpattararaksa as the recipient of the 2026 Jarupong Thongsin Award for Democracy. A former Khon Kaen University student activist who campaigned against military rule, Jatupat was previously imprisoned in 2017 for sharing a BBC Thai article and received a three-year lèse-majesté sentence in September 2025 over a 2021 protest speech.

Jatupat currently faces 27 criminal cases, including three charges under Section 112. In response, the council urged the public to sign a petition advocating for the repeal of Order No. 41 to reinstate previous statutory penalty limits. The award ceremony will take place at Thammasat’s Tha Prachan campus on October 6, marking the 50th anniversary of the 1976 massacre and honoring Jarupong Thongsin, a student activist who died in the tragedy.

Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, stated following a meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command that the overall situation is improving, water levels in upstream areas have begun to stabilize and recede, although some areas—such as Prachin Buri—continue to face flooding.

He instructed all areas to use a unified set of data when communicating with the public, particularly regarding water levels and discharge rates. Preparations must also be made for a new wave of rainfall expected between October 5 and 7, and close monitoring of high tides is required from October 5 to 10. Furthermore, he ordered the immediate disbursement of relief payments, directing the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to coordinate with banks to transfer financial aid to the public without delay.

Anutin confirmed that the 4.7-billion-baht flood relief fund, drawn from remaining central contingency reserves, should be sufficient. The government had initially planned to use these surplus funds to clear state debts, including payments to the BAAC, but diverted them to disaster relief following the floods, deferring debt obligations to the FY2027 budget.

Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warns of variable weather across the Northern, Central (including Bangkok and surrounding areas), Eastern, and upper Southern regions over the next 24 hours, with thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, heavy to very heavy localized rainfall, and lightning. Meanwhile, rainfall will decrease in the Northeastern region as a high-pressure system from China expands over the area.

From October 9 to 13, 2026, rainfall will increase across the Eastern, Central, and Southern regions, including Bangkok and vicinity, bringing heavy to very heavy rain in some areas. This condition is driven by another cold air mass from China reinforcing coverage over the Northeast and the South China Sea, pushing the monsoon trough lower over the East and upper South alongside moderate southwesterly monsoons.

Recently TMD has updated its radar data, indicating light to moderate rain—with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall—accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning across Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Sakhon. Most of the rain cells are moving southwestward toward the Nakhon Pathom–Samut Sakhon zone and the southwestern areas of Bangkok, with a tendency to expand further.

Last night heavy rain fell across several provinces nationwide, including Bangkok. The Bangkok Flood Control Center reported that at 2:45 AM on October 6, 2026, light to moderate rain was scattered across Bangkok and its vicinity, moving westward; the highest rainfall was recorded at the Dao Khanong station in Thon Buri District at 65.0 mm. By 6:30 AM, light rain was observed in the Nong Khaem, Bang Bon, Phasi Charoen, Chom Thong, and Bang Khun Thian districts, moving southward, with the highest rainfall again recorded in Thon Buri District at 69.5 mm.

The Chao Phraya Dam is maintaining water releases at 2,500 cubic meters per second; while officials assure this will not overtop flood barriers in Bangkok and nearby urban zones, local riverside communities outside the protection barriers remain under close watch.

Upstream reservoirs show varying capacity, with Pa Sak Jolasid Dam at full capacity and increasing releases to 500 cubic meters per second, whereas Bhumibol and Sirikit dams retain capacity at 68% and 81% respectively. In response, the Royal Irrigation Department has established a crisis water management coordination center to mobilize drainage pumps and coordinate regional relief efforts.

Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation chief Nirat Phongsitthithaworn said the government’s 4.7-billion-baht flood relief allocation is unlikely to be enough. Some affected areas fall outside the Cabinet’s existing approval, and the prime minister has said additional funding can be requested. As of 7 a.m., 1.06 million households had registered through the Tang Rat app. Bangkok led with 458,987 applications, followed by Samut Prakan with 149,194, Pathum Thani with 130,010, Chachoengsao with 42,531 and Rayong with 36,016.

Eligible households will receive 9,000 baht if their main homes were flooded for up to seven days with property damage, or for seven consecutive days or longer. Households in main residences or high-rise buildings surrounded by floodwater for at least seven days will receive 5,000 baht.

However, applications for the 2026 flood relief fund have faced significant delays, triggering widespread public backlash across multiple regions. The issue stems from disconnected online systems, overly complex documentation requirements, and technological barriers among elderly residents trying to access the portal.

Srisuwan Janya, leader of the Patriotic and Land-Loving Organization, petitioned the Bangkok Metropolitan Council to seek Cabinet approval for the dismissal of Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt under Section 52 (8) of the Bangkok Administration Act 1985. The petition centers on Chadchart’s decision to stall the Khlong Khu Bon retention basin project—a Royal “Monkey’s Cheek” initiative in eastern Bangkok aimed at flood prevention that had already passed public hearings and received Cabinet approval in principle.

Srisuwan alleged that Chadchart halted the required land expropriation due to a conflict of interest, claiming a company linked to the Governor’s former advisory team had acquired over 20 rai of land within the project zone. He argued that abandoning the flood-retention site directly exacerbated local flooding, providing grounds for the Council to request Chadchart’s removal.

Following recent flooding in Thailand, over a thousand motorists are searching for vehicle license plates that were swept away in high water. Local police stations, district offices, and dedicated online platforms like FindMyPlate have published photos and created databases of hundreds of recovered plates to help reunite lost property with owners. To assist affected drivers, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) has streamlined the replacement process through November 30, allowing motorists to apply at any land transport office nationwide without needing a police report.

Replacement plates cost 100 baht each plus a 5-baht application fee. The DLT also cautioned drivers against making their own unofficial plates, warning that non-compliant plates carry fines of up to 2,000 baht.

On October 5, 2026, a woman sought justice via the “Hone Krasae” television program, alleging that her son and daughter-in-law had involuntarily confined her in an elderly care facility for over two and a half years. She claimed to have suffered physical abuse, intimidation, and forced medication before secretly contacting her younger sister to help her escape.

Subsequently, officials inspected the site—a facility for the elderly and dependent patients—and discovered iron fencing resembling prison bars installed both on the exterior and around the living quarters, with concertina wire attached to the fence. However, the most distressing sight for observers was the presence of iron cages attached directly to the beds where elderly residents and patients were lying.

Recently, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) posted on Facebook stating that officers had inspected an elderly and psychiatric care facility in Kanchanaburi Province following complaints of abuse. Authorities are urgently gathering facts to take legal action. The post, which included images of the facility, has drawn a large number of comments from the public.

More than 20 otters were spotted swimming, hunting fish, and playing in Bangkok Noi Canal near Bang Khu Wiang in Bang Krang, Nonthaburi, on October 5, 2026. Local residents were surprised because many people who have lived along the canal for more than 40 years said they had never seen such a large group of otters there. A resident said that otters had been seen in the area about two years ago, but there were only three or four at the time. The recent increase appears to coincide with water flowing downstream from the north, leading residents to speculate that the otters may have been carried into the area with the current.

The otters appeared to be divided into two groups on opposite sides of the canal. At times, the groups faced each other as if they might fight, while others continued swimming and catching fish. The sighting has attracted considerable attention because otters are protected wildlife and natural predators.
