PUTRAJAYA, Oct 6 — PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang visited the grave of Tun Dr Hasmah Mohd Ali in Putrajaya today, just over a week after the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad died at the age of 100.

Abdul Hadi shared photographs of the visit to the Pusara Negara in Precinct 20 in a Facebook post, where he also offered prayers for the late physician and public figure.

“May Allah SWT bestow His mercy upon her soul, forgive all her sins, accept all her good deeds, and place her among His faithful and righteous servants, granting her an honoured place by His side.

“Al-Fatihah,” he wrote.

Dr Hasmah’s son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, was also at the cemetery and received Abdul Hadi during the visit, according to the post.

Abdul Hadi was accompanied by his political secretary, Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman.

Dr Hasmah died at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on September 28 at the age of 100. She was laid to rest later that day at Pusara Negara following a state funeral attended by Dr Mahathir, their children and other family members.

Born in Klang in 1926, Dr Hasmah was among Malaysia’s pioneering women doctors and built a career in maternal and child healthcare before becoming widely known for her public health and welfare work.

She became the first woman appointed as a medical officer in the Maternal and Child Health Department in 1965 and later the first woman to serve as a state maternal and child health officer.

She was also active in campaigns against drug abuse and held roles in welfare and sporting organisations, while remaining a prominent public figure during Dr Mahathir’s decades in Malaysian politics.
