马来西亚气象局警告:季风过渡期将于10月9日开始,带来雷暴、山洪暴发和树木倒塌等风险。

The monsoon transition phase in Malaysia will start on October 9 and continue until late October, ending the South-west Monsoon.

This period will bring heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds, increasing risks of flash floods and property damage.

The public is advised to stay informed via METMalaysia's website and other communication channels due to the changing weather conditions.

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 6 — The monsoon transition phase is expected to begin on October 9 and continue until late October, marking the end of the South-west Monsoon, which began on May 14.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said in a statement today that during this phase, the country will experience weak winds blowing from various directions, which are conducive to the formation of thunderstorm clouds.

“This situation typically brings heavy rain and lightning accompanied by strong winds over a short period, particularly during the afternoon and early evening in most areas in the west and interior of the Peninsula, as well as western Sabah and Sarawak.

“These weather phenomena have the potential to cause flash floods, water surges, fallen trees, and damage to unstable structures,” he said.

He added that with the end of the South-west Monsoon, transboundary haze from neighbouring countries is expected to gradually diminish following changes in wind patterns.

As such, the public is advised to exercise greater caution during this period and stay informed about weather forecasts and warnings issued by METMalaysia through its official website, myCuaca mobile application, and official social media platforms.

The public can also contact the department’s hotline at 1-300-22-1638 for further enquiries, he said. — Bernama
