A man was found dead after his 4WD vehicle skidded and plunged into a 100-metre-deep ravine in Gua Musang.

The victim and the vehicle were discovered two days after the incident, with police alerted following a report from the public.

The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving resulting in death.

KOTA BHARU, Oct 7 —A local man was killed after the four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle he was driving is believed to have skidded before plunging into a ravine about 100 metres deep at Jalan Ladang Pos Pulat, in Gua Musang. The vehicle and victim were only found two days after the incident.

Gua Musang police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said police received a report from a member of the public at 4.30 pm yesterday about the discovery of the Toyota Hilux at the bottom of the ravine, with the victim found unconscious and pronounced dead at the scene.

He said preliminary investigations found that the accident was believed to have occurred last Sunday, two days before the vehicle and victim were found.

“Based on information from the victim’s wife, the victim’s last live location was detected on Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of the incident.

“On Oct 6, the victim’s colleague went to the location of the last live location to search for him before finding the victim’s Toyota Hilux at the bottom of the ravine,” he said in a statement today.

Sik said investigations found that the victim was believed to have been driving his vehicle when it skidded into the ravine while going downhill.

He said no one was believed to have witnessed the incident, resulting in the vehicle driven by the victim going unnoticed by members of the public until it was found by his colleague.

The victim’s body was subsequently brought up from the scene with the assistance of personnel from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department before being sent to the Forensic Unit of Gua Musang Hospital for a post-mortem.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for the offence of reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.

“Further investigations are still being conducted to identify the actual cause of the accident and the circumstances that led to the incident,” he said. — Bernama
