A 16-year-old student died and his sister was injured in a motorcycle crash in Kuala Nerus.

The accident happened when the student overtook a vehicle and collided with another motorcycle.

The case is under investigation, and the victim was a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Tunggal.

KUALA NERUS, Oct 7 —A 16-year-old student was killed while his younger sister was injured in a collision involving three motorcycles at Jalan Sungai Buaya, Kampung Batin, Seberang Takir here this afternoon.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the victim, Ahmad Areesy Zafreen Ahmad Azhar, died at the scene from serious injuries to several parts of his body.

He said the incident is believed to have occurred at about 5.10 pm when the victim, who was riding a Modenas Kriss from Kampung Batin towards Seberang Takir, overtook a vehicle before colliding with a Honda EX5 travelling in the opposite direction.

“The EX5, ridden by an 18-year-old male teenager, was then hit from behind by another motorcycle travelling in the same direction.

“Both motorcycle riders were injured and sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for treatment. The victim’s younger sister, who was riding pillion on his motorcycle, was also sent to the same hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement today.

Azli said the victim, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Tunggal, was taken to the HSNZ Forensic Department for further action, while the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
