Haze-related diseases at 78 Health Ministry facilities showed a 10.43% rise in upper respiratory infections while conjunctivitis cases increased by 26.47%.

The ministry suggests precautions for vulnerable groups during high API readings and advises using masks and checking DOE channels for updates.

As of 10 am, 33 areas recorded unhealthy API levels, with Batu Pahat at the highest reading of 190.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — A total of 33 areas recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at unhealthy levels as of 10 am today, with Batu Pahat, Johor, recording the highest reading at 190.

According to the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, other areas in Johor recording unhealthy API levels were Tangkak (186), Larkin (185), Pasir Gudang (184), Segamat (181), Kluang (177), Kota Tinggi (172), and Pengerang (169).

In Negeri Sembilan, the affected areas were Seremban (183), Nilai (179), and Port Dickson (164), while in Melaka, three areas were affected: Bukit Rambai (175), Melaka City (173), and Alor Gajah (173).

Six areas in Selangor also recorded unhealthy API readings: Shah Alam (167), Johan Setia (165), Petaling Jaya (161), Klang (157), Banting (154), and Kuala Selangor (152); meanwhile, in Perak, the areas were Tasek Ipoh (174), Pegoh Ipoh (170), Tanjung Malim (168), and Seri Manjung (152).

Batu Muda and Cheras in the capital recorded readings of 169 and 175 respectively, while Putrajaya recorded 167.

Other affected areas include Rompin (168), Temerloh (139), and Indera Mahkota Kuantan (141) in Pahang; Seberang Perai (123) in Penang; as well as Kuching (153) and Samarahan (109) in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, 35 areas nationwide recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at the moderate level.

API readings between 0 and 50 indicate good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; while readings exceeding 300 are considered hazardous. — Bernama
