Cops arrest five men after video of alleged armed assault in Petaling Jaya goes viral

Five men were arrested for allegedly attacking a man with dangerous weapons in Petaling Jaya, and police seized a machete and a saw.

Three of the suspects have previous criminal and drug-related records, while the other two do not.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code, and police urge witnesses to provide information.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Police have arrested five men, aged between 30 and 40, on suspicion of being involved in an attack on a man using dangerous weapons at a housing area in Petaling Jaya on Friday.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat said that during the arrests, police also seized a machete and a saw believed to have been used in the incident.

“At 1.03am yesterday (Friday), the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) received a police report from a local man stating that he had been attacked by several individuals. Police also tracked down a video related to the incident that went viral on social media,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that three of the arrested suspects have multiple past records involving criminal and drug offences, while the other two have no recorded criminal history.

“The case is investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons or dangerous objects during a riot. The public is advised not to spread inaccurate information or make any speculations regarding this incident,” he said.

Shamsudin also urged witnesses with information related to the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the Petaling Jaya IPD operations room directly at 03-79662222 to assist with the investigation. — Bernama

八打灵再也警区主任沙姆斯丁·马末助理警监表示，在逮捕过程中，警方还缴获了一把砍刀和一把锯子，据信是作案工具。

“昨天（星期五）凌晨1点03分，八打灵再也警区总部接到一名当地男子的报案，称他遭到多人袭击。警方还追踪到一段与该事件相关的视频，该视频已在社交媒体上疯传，”他在昨天的一份声明中说。

他还补充说，被捕的三名嫌疑人有多项涉及刑事和毒品犯罪的前科，而另外两人则没有犯罪记录。

“此案正根据《刑法》第148条进行调查，该条款涉及在骚乱期间持有武器或危险物品。请公众不要散布不实信息或对此事件进行任何猜测。”他说道。
