KUANTAN, Oct 11 — Wanita PKR has lodged a police report against the owner of the Facebook account Eric See-To, also known as Lim Sian See, over a post allegedly mocking an expression related to a Quranic verse.

Wanita PKR executive committee member Farahida Fauzi said the report was lodged at the Kuantan District Police Headquarters at about noon today to enable the matter to be investigated.

“I urge the authorities to conduct an immediate, transparent and impartial investigation. If a violation of the law is established, firm action must be taken without delay,” she said in a statement today.

Farahida, who is also Wanita PKR Pahang deputy chief, reminded the public not to make fun of religion to attract attention, provoke others or seek popularity.

Yesterday, Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh urged the individual to issue a public apology for allegedly mocking the use of the word “Lighad”, describing the act as belittling a Quranic verse, a matter that should not be taken lightly.

Earlier, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan stressed that the sanctity of the Quran as the primary source of Islamic teachings must always be respected and preserved.

He said any act of ridiculing or insulting the sacred words of the Quran was irresponsible and could offend the sensitivities of Muslims. — Bernama
