A little over a week ago, Malaysia saw Red Bull’s Max Verstappen top the podium in the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix held at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), as Formula 1 finally returned to the country after a nine-year hiatus.
But a month earlier, on Sept 5 and halfway around the world at the Imola Circuit in Italy, a very different kind of race took place, where machines rather than man took the chequered flag in an event spotlighting autonomous race cars.
