All four public transport operators in Singapore are making N95 masks available to their bus and rail workers amid the ongoing haze, the National Transport Workers' Union (NTWU) said in a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 12).

The operators are: SMRT, SBS Transit, Tower Transit and Go-Ahead Singapore.

NTWU added that public transport workers spend long hours outdoors, including on roads, at interchanges and along rail lines, making their work more challenging amid the haze.

While thanking the operators for working with it to prioritise workers' health and protection, it also urged workers to monitor the haze situation, wear N95 masks, stay hydrated, take breaks when possible and look out for one another.

Workers who have yet to collect their masks are advised to check with their supervisors or colleagues.

The Government's Haze Task Force had earlier announced that employers should minimise prolonged or strenuous outdoor work for vulnerable employees when air quality deteriorates and provide suitable masks if such work cannot be avoided.

The measures come as Singapore steps up precautions to protect residents from the effects of the haze.
