BUTTERWORTH, Oct 20 — Police have detained six men to assist investigations into the abuse of an Indonesian woman in Tanjong Sepat, Selangor, in a raid at a business premise at Pusat Perniagaan Oren, Jalan Merbau, here today.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman said the 6.30pm raid was carried out by the Selangor police contingent headquarters (IPK) Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team, with assistance from the Penang IPK CID team.

“The raid was conducted following an incident on October 16, in which an Indonesian woman sustained burns to her body after she was allegedly abused by her employer at Jalan Besar Kampung Tumbok, Tanjong Sepat.

“The victim has been rescued. Following the incident, police detained six men, including the woman’s employer, to assist in investigations into the case,” he said in a statement tonight.

He said further investigations are ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM) [Act 670].
