The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has deregistered Perikatan Nasional (PN) after concluding that their explanations failed to address the grounds for deregistration as outlined in a prior notice.

The decision, made under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966, followed a review of documents and representations submitted by PN.

A key reason for the deregistration was PN's violation of Clause 7.1 of its constitution by excluding Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia from a key meeting.

RoS determined that PN's justifications were unsatisfactory, and thus, the cancellation order was enacted.

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 20 — The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has confirmed that it has cancelled the registration of Perikatan Nasional (PN) after finding that the coalition’s explanation failed to refute the grounds for deregistration stated in an earlier notice, Berita Harian reported.

According to RoS, the decision was made under subparagraph 13(1)©(iv) of the Societies Act 1966 after it examined all documents and representations submitted by PN on October 12.

It said a notice dated September 22 had been issued to PN under Section 13(2) of the Act to give the party an opportunity to submit its explanation and representations on the matters raised.

“After examining all documents and explanations submitted, the Registrar of Societies found that the reasons given could not refute the basis for the cancellation of registration as stated in the notice.

“It also did not provide strong justification for maintaining the society’s registration,” RoS was quoted as saying.

Based on the cancellation notice sighted by the Malay-language daily, among the reasons for the deregistration was that PN had breached Clause 7.1 of its party constitution by denying Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) the right to attend and take part in the PN Supreme Council’s emergency meeting on July 16.

“And whereas the registrar has considered this matter as well as the reasons submitted to him by the office-bearers of the society.

“The registrar is of the opinion that the reasons do not show satisfactory cause, and it is therefore ordered that the registration of the society named above be cancelled with effect from the date of the order,” the notice read.
