The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 7,804 Vehicle Entry Permit summonses, amounting to RM1.17 million, from January to October 18.

Inspections were conducted on 120,740 vehicles at two entry points, while compliance issues among foreign drivers remain low.

JPJ uses mobile vans and squads at key locations for summons payments, ensuring smooth operations and addressing foreign drivers' non-compliance claims.

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 20 — The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 7,804 summonses totalling RM1.17 million through the implementation of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) from January to October 18, according to its director Zulkarnain Yasin.

He said this was the result of inspections on 120,740 vehicles at the state’s two land entry points — the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB).

He said enforcement operations were conducted continuously at the two entry points.

“However, the rate of non-compliance among foreign drivers is actually still low compared with the overall number of vehicles inspected,” he said in an interview with Bernama recently.

He said JPJ mobile vans had been stationed at BSI and KSAB since early this month to facilitate the payment of VEP summonses.

He said that so far, no foreign vehicles had been barred from leaving the country through the two entry points for failing to pay summonses.

“Our action is to prevent summonses from accumulating. Automatically, they (vehicle owners) have to pay on the spot, which is why we have also provided a mobile squad,” he said.

He said his team was always on standby at the locations to ensure smooth operations in the event of technical issues or disruptions to the VEP system.

Zulkarnain said that although full enforcement of the VEP had been implemented last year, some foreign vehicle owners still claimed that they were unaware of the requirement.

“Some of them say they did not know, even though it (VEP enforcement) has been in place for a long time. We will not accept such excuses,” he said. — Bernama
