A father who wanted to keep up with his two daughters shed 21kg and placed fifth in his first bodybuilding competition in Kuala Lumpur.

Muhammad Aidil Mohamed Sis, 37, weighed 92kg in 2025 before deciding to change his lifestyle to become fitter for his children, Berita Harian (BH) reported on Friday (Oct 16).

"Every time my children wanted to do an activity, I would do it for a while before getting tired," BH quoted him as saying.

The Singapore-based Aidil said he wondered why he could not spend more time doing activities with his daughters, Aneesa Muhammad Aidil, seven, and Adeena Muhammad Aidil, 11.

Aidil, a podcaster with The Common Folks and a freelance fitness coach, began training to lose weight in November 2025, and his interest in bodybuilding grew after he met competitors who encouraged him to give it a try.

His wife, Siti Juleiha Ishak, also supported the idea, telling him: "Just try it once, since you're already interested."

With her support and guidance from two coaches, he began preparing for the competition in January this year, balancing gym sessions, cardio and meal planning with work and family commitments.

"People may only see the few minutes we spend on stage, but they don't see the months of sacrifice behind the scenes," he told BH.

He said maintaining his diet for months was more challenging than training, and he prepared and weighed his own meals to avoid burdening his homemaker wife.

A fan of sweet treats, Aidil also had to control his cravings for chocolate and ice cream, sometimes opting for sugar-free chocolate instead.

On Oct 11, Aidil weighed 71kg and finished fifth among 12 competitors in the first-timer Men's Physique category at the Physical Culture Association Malaysia competition in Kuala Lumpur.

He told BH he had not expected to place fifth in his debut, adding that the achievement was meaningful given that never imagined himself competing on stage.

The experience also taught him valuable lessons about discipline and perseverance, reinforcing the importance of staying committed to his goals despite the challenges.

Aidil hopes his journey will inspire others to lead healthier lives.

"I don't want this journey to end with just a medal. I want it to be something that can benefit the community," he said.
