Letter from Dr Tan Woei Ling, Dr Noor Hasliza Che Seman, Dr Norsyazmi Mohd, Dr Aida Syafinaz Mokhtar and Dr Wong Kwok Khuen, Kuala Lumpur

FOR many Malaysians living in urban low-income communities, maintaining good health is not simply a matter of making healthy lifestyle choices; it is a daily struggle shaped by financial limitations, demanding work schedules, inadequate health information and difficulties navigating an increasingly complex healthcare system.
A person living with diabetes may understand the importance of regular follow-up appointments but struggle to take time off work. An older adult with hypertension may receive medication without fully understanding how to manage the condition at home. A family may know that preventive screening is important but postpone it because immediate household expenses take priority.
