If you are looking forward to outdoor activities over the weekend, after seeing better PM2.5 and PSI levels across Singapore on Friday (Oct 23) morning , you may have to adjust your plans.
The Republic's "oxygen pass" expired at 1pm, with hourly PM2.5 entering the elevated band (56 to 150µg/m3) again in all five regions.
Through the afternoon, prevailing winds continued to bring smoke haze from Sumatra towards the city state.
At 6pm, concentration readings remained in the elevated band, ranging from 70µg/m3 to 98µg/m3 in the central region.
Meanwhile, 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) was in the unhealthy range in western (108) and central (102) Singapore, while remaining in the moderate range in the northern (85), eastern (89) and southern (89) regions.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) said smoke haze from Sumatra was observed drifting towards Singapore.
Smoke haze was also observed over Kalimantan, it added.
Haze and weather outlook
In its daily haze situation updated issued on Friday evening, the agency said showers are forecast over Singapore and the surrounding region.
But it cautioned that smoke haze may still be transported towards Singapore from Sumatra under the prevailing south-southeasterly or south-southwesterly winds.
PSI is forecast to be between 90 to 140 — in the moderate to unhealthy range.
NEA added that winds are expected to turn to blow from the southwest or west from Sunday onwards, which, it said, may reduce the smoke haze transported to Singapore.
Members of the public should check the latest hourly PM2.5 readings before participating in outdoor activites.
