Singapore woman warns against going JB for dental work after face swells: 'Not worth this just to save money'

A Singapore woman who travelled to Johor Bahru for a routine dental cleaning procedure was left in pain after a tooth filling purportedly left her nerve tissue exposed.

"This is the first time in my life experiencing something so painful," the woman told Shin Min Daily News of her ordeal.

The 40-year-old, surnamed Li, had been treated at Q & M Dental Group Malaysia's Taman Sentosa branch on Sept 4, reported the Chinese publication.

Li said it was her first time at that clinic — she typically does scaling and polishing at another branch but could not attend her original appointment.

A dentist reportedly recommended fillings for two teeth, which she agreed to.

However, Li claimed she experienced extreme pain when her tooth was drilled without warning. A large space was left after the treatment, she said.

In all, she paid about RM383 (S$120) for two fillings, as well as scaling and polishing.

Li said her face swelled after the procedure, and she had to take medicine to relieve her pain.

"I sent a photo to the customer service, and they said I had an exposed nerve and arranged for me to see a senior dentist," she added.

Two weeks later, she visited the Mount Austin clinic and had her teeth refilled again.

But Li continues to regret getting fillings, explaining that her teeth still feel sensitive and that she bites on her gums when she closes her jaw.

""I also want to tell everyone that travelling all the way to Johor Bahru for dental work, just to save money, might not be worth it."

Q & M Dental Group Malaysia told Shin Min that it values patient feedback and is committed to maintaining the highest standard of professional care.

It reportedly said it will investigate and follow up with patient in accordance with its procedures.

The group also said it cannot comment on specific details due to patient privacy.
