KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — A total of 25,464 participants in the MyLesen B2 Programme have completed their training and obtained their Class B2 Probationary Driving Licence (PDL), representing about 85 per cent of this year’s target.
The Ministry of Transport (MOT) said the government had allocated RM11.186 million to provide 30,000 places under the programme.
It said 30,660 individuals had been offered places and agreed to participate, exceeding the target by 2.2 per cent, while 28,785 had registered at driving institutes.
“Implementation in 11 states has reached 100 per cent, while the remaining participants in other states are completing their training and tests before the programme concludes on Oct 31, 2026,” the ministry said in a written parliamentary reply published on Parliament’s website.
The reply was in response to a question from Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH-Bukit Bendera) on the process of obtaining a full driving licence under the MyLesen B2 Programme, from application to licence issuance, as well as the latest progress of the MyLesen B2 and MyLesen B2 Sekolah (MyB2S) programmes.
On the MyLesen B2 School (MyB2S) programme, which targets secondary school students from B40 (low-income) families, including those with special educational needs, the ministry said 50,642 students had been offered places.
Of these, 40,590 were undergoing training at driving institutes nationwide, while 30,648 had obtained their Learner’s Driving Licence (LDL).
A further 7,157 students had completed the process to obtain their Class B2 PDL.
“This figure is expected to continue rising, as many MyB2S participants are still undergoing training and practical tests,” the ministry said, adding that the government covered the costs of courses, training, the initial test and up to two repeat tests under the MyLesen B2 Programme.
The MOT said the process of obtaining a PDL typically took three to five months, depending on participants’ attendance, training schedules and commitment.
However, the ministry stressed that all assessment requirements must be met without exception, despite the programme being fully funded by the government.
“Our principle is simple — the government provides financial support, but competence and safety cannot be compromised,” it said.
The ministry said the initiatives went beyond providing financial assistance to obtain a driving licence, as they also aimed to ensure that young people and those from B40 families received formal training, understood road traffic laws and acquired the basic skills needed to ride safely on public roads. — Bernama
