From early 2027, visitors to Sentosa will have another way of getting around the island.

The Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) said on Thursday (Oct 29) that it is partnering Tada Mobility to launch a pilot of an on-demand shared autonomous vehicle service.

"The service is aimed at providing guests with more convenient and accessible transport options to get around and discover the island in a scenic and enjoyable manner," they added.

During the pilot, two WeRide-developed autonomous vehicles will ply a total of 27 pick-up and drop-off points, which will be launched progressively.

Each vehicle can sit up to eight guests, with a safety operator on board.

The vehicles will extensively utilise the service roads along Siloso Beach and Palawan Beach, as well as existing public roads, to create faster commutes and connections for day-to-day visitors.

In turn, this allows visitors to get to the beachfront attractions and restaurants more directly, without needing to change to a beach shuttle.

Referring to its initial autonomous vehicle trial in 2019, SDC said the current pilot tests a new operating model that is designed around on-demand needs of visitors.

This means that visitors will be able to book on-demand rides, with autonomous vehicles able to skip designated pick-up, drop-off points along predetermined routes.

Ride bookings will use GPS data to suggest the nearest available pick-up and drop-off points across the island.

The service will be complimentary for guests during the pilot period and will operate from 1pm to 7pm.

Future guest experience enhancements, such as commentary highlighting the attractions and offerings of the surrounding areas, are also being explored.

SDC chief executive Thien Kwee Eng said the pilot is intended to make it easier for guests to get around.

She added that the partnership with Tada also reflects the Smart Sentosa ambition, serving as a "living lab" to explore new mobility solutions that can make the guest experience even more seamless and convenient.
