Teen, 14, arrested for throwing stone that shattered KTMB train window in Arau

ARAU, Oct 31 — A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after admitting to throwing a stone at a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) train, shattering the window of one of its coaches on Thursday, according to Sinar Harian .

The suspect, a local secondary school student, was detained today under Op Cantas by the Arau district Criminal Investigation Division together with the Arau police station task force.

Arau district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi said initial investigations found the suspect had admitted to deliberately throwing a stone at the train while at the Kampung Jelempok motorcycle overpass.

“The suspect also claimed that at the time of the incident, he was hanging out in the area with four of his friends.

“However, only the suspect threw the stone, while his four friends were not involved and merely watched,” he was quoted as saying.

Police had earlier received a report on the incident, in which the window of a KTMB coach was believed to have shattered while the train was travelling from Arau Station towards Alor Setar.

The report was lodged at the Arau police station at 12.30pm yesterday.

Ahmad Mohsin said the suspect was arrested at a house in Kampung Guar Sanji.

He said police also seized a Vivo Y05 mobile phone with a SIM card, as well as a stone believed to be linked to the case.

“The suspect, who has no prior record, is now being held at the Kangar police station lockup to assist investigations,” he said.

“嫌疑人还声称，事发时他正和四个朋友在附近闲逛。

“然而，只有嫌疑人扔了石头，他的四个朋友没有参与，只是在一旁观看，”他被引述说。

警方此前已接到有关该事件的报告，据信 KTMB 列车在从亚娄站开往亚罗士打的途中，一节车厢的窗户被震碎。

该报案于昨日下午12点30分提交至亚娄警察局。

艾哈迈德·莫辛表示，嫌疑人在甘榜瓜尔桑吉的一所房子里被捕。

他说，警方还缴获了一部 Vivo Y05 手机和一张 SIM 卡，以及一块据信与此案有关的石头。

他说：“这名嫌疑人没有犯罪前科，目前被关押在加央警察局拘留所，以协助调查。”
