In just the past week alone, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) detected 50 cases of travellers found with vaporisers, seizing over 5,476 of such devices.

Among these cases, the largest haul of 5,272 vaporisers and related components were found in the luggage of four arriving foreigners at Changi Airport Terminal 4 on Oct 26.

According to ICA, their search and examination officers had profiled the quartet for further checks, leading to the find.

They have since been referred to the Health Sciences Authority and will be facing higher penalties under the Tobacco and Vaporisers Control Act (TVCA).

Meanwhile, 16 Singapore residents were found with vaporisers between Oct 26 to 29.

The authority said such stepped-up checks at Singapore's land, air and sea checkpoints are part of ongoing efforts to detect and deter attempts to smuggle vaporisers into Singapore.

It also reminded travellers that vaping is illegal in Singapore and that foreigners who visit or reside in Singapore must abide by the country's laws.

Short-term visitors who re-offend will be banned from re-entering Singapore, while long-term pass holders who re-offend may have their passes revoked on a third offence and be deported and banned from re-entering Singapore.
