Every seat in the US House is on the ballot this year, and the results are a major test of how voters feel almost two years into President Donald Trump’s second term.

To measure that, CNN is comparing each district’s House result with how it voted for president in 2024. If Trump won a district by 10 points, and the Republican House candidate carried it by 4 this time, that would represent a 6-point shift toward Democrats, for example.

It’s not a perfect comparison. A House contest isn’t a presidential race. Incumbency, local issues and the candidates themselves all matter — and fewer people generally vote in midterms. But across hundreds of districts, these shifts are among the clearest signals of which direction the country is moving.

The results will update and reflect automatically below. Early returns can be misleading, and districts can swing sharply as the counting continues. That’s why the map shows only districts with at least 30% of the expected vote in.

Check back and follow along as results start coming in on election night — these graphics will update as votes are counted.

The partisan shifts by voters will also likely affect the distribution of political power in the House, as districts either move toward Democrats or Republicans.

This chart, which will fill in as more races are counted, shows the numbers of districts that voted with a Republican or Democratic margin in 2024 compared with now. If the Democrats have a good night, for example, more red districts will shift blue.

About the data: Shift compares the Republican-minus-Democratic margin in each district’s 2026 House race with the 2024 presidential margin in the same district, both as a share of all votes cast. The 2024 presidential results are from the Associated Press and have been recalculated for current district lines. Districts without both a Democrat and a Republican on the ballot are not included.
