Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn revealed that the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is negotiating with the private concessionaire of the High-Speed Rail Linking Three Airports project, which currently operates the Airport Rail Link. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), announced a meeting scheduled for September 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM to address ongoing violence and conflicts between Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok, Utain Tถavai Campus, and Pathumwan Institute of Technology. The meeting will bring together key officials including the Permanent Secretary, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MHESI, the President of Chulalongkorn University, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, as well as presidents and deans from both institutions to strictly enforce legal measures.

Higher Education Minister Yodchanan Wongsawat announced that authorities plan to negotiate directly with ringleaders behind inter-institutional violence between Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok’s Uthenthawai Campus and Pathumwan Institute of Technology following a stabbing incident at BTS Siam station that left two Pathumwan students injured.

The ministry will convene with police, school administrators, and landowner Chulalongkorn University to discuss stricter law enforcement and timelines for moving forward. As part of a long-term resolution, authorities are evaluating relocating the Uthenthawai Campus away from its current site to pave the way for its redevelopment into an open economic and research district.

Thailand’s overall performance improved in the PISA 2025 assessment, climbing five spots to 53rd globally as scores rose across science (+23 points), mathematics (+13), and reading (+13). Despite this rebound, average scores remain below 2015 levels, and significant proficiency gaps persist: minimum proficiency rates for Thai students in math (41%), reading (41%), and science (59%) continue to lag well behind OECD averages, with virtually no top-tier performers in reading.

Notably, however, disadvantaged Thai students narrowed the equity gap in science, scoring above average in academic resilience with socio-economic background having a lower impact on performance (7%) than the OECD average (12%). The Education Ministry plans to use these localized data points from the sample of over 8,500 students to implement targeted educational interventions.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo celebrated the 61st birthday of ‘Mae Mali’ (Mother Mali), Thailand’s oldest hippopotamus, on Tuesday with a special fruit cake and well-wishes from staff, executives and visitors.

Mae Mali was donated to Thailand by Tilburg Zoo in the Netherlands on June 8, 1967, when she was just a year old. She was initially housed at Dusit Zoo in Bangkok, before being transferred to Khao Kheow Open Zoo on December 18, 2018. Over more than six decades in Thailand, Mae Mali has given birth to 14 calves. She remains in good health and under the close supervision of veterinarians and caretakers, with supporters hoping she may eventually set a record as the world’s oldest living hippopotamus.
