A Grab passenger has called out a private-hire vehicle (PHV) driver for streaming dramas and videos while driving.
In an Instagram post shared by the account sgfollowsall on Tuesday (Sept 8), the passenger said they were posting about their experience to raise awareness, claiming that during a 10-minute trip, the driver was streaming content.
The passenger said they were tempted to confront the driver, but decided against it after seeing previous viral videos of drivers allegedly becoming aggressive towards passengers.
"Why risk an escalation inside a moving car?" they wrote.
They also pushed back against those who might argue that reporting such drivers could affect their livelihoods.
"Getting from point A to point B alive seems like a luxury now," they said, adding that keeping one's eyes on the road should be considered a basic requirement.
They ultimately decided to lodge an official report about the incident.
"If speaking up means risking getting shouted at, don't blame passengers for recording you from the back seat," they wrote, adding that platforms often require evidence before taking action.
The video attracted many comments online, with the majority disagreeing with the contributor's view.
Many felt that it was not something drivers should be criticised for, with one commenter suggesting that some drivers may do so "to stay focused and awake".
Another netizen felt there was "nothing wrong" with the driver's actions, suggesting that the driver was "just listening then watching".
Some agreed with the passenger, arguing that it is merely a matter of the passenger's "law and safety".
