Bank of Thailand looks to revive Small & Medium Sized Industries

The government plans to offer subsidies of 50,000 Baht per household for solar-panel installations, targeting at least one million households with a budget of 50 billion Baht, Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas announced.

Registration is set to open in mid-October under the condition of one entitlement per electricity-meter owner, with the Interior Ministry considering expanding the scheme to 1.5 million homes. To cover upfront costs, state-owned banks will provide loans that can be repaid by selling excess electricity back to the grid, where a five-kilowatt system is expected to generate roughly 1,000 Baht monthly for low-use households. If the higher tax is implemented, a new EV priced at 1 million Baht could face an additional tax burden of roughly 200,000–300,000 Baht compared with the current rate, potentially increasing consumer prices and affecting market competitiveness. Existing advance orders may be protected under the current tax rate.

SET’s performance in August 2026

Thailand’s SET Index experienced a correction in August 2026, falling 1.8% month-on-month to 1,595.16 points, although it remained up 26.6% from the end of 2025. However, valuation is a concern: the SET’s forward P/E of 14.3x and historical P/E of 15.1x were above Asian market averages of 13.2x and 14.5x, respectively. The main positive offset is the Thai market’s dividend yield of 4.3%, substantially above Asia’s 2.8%, suggesting that while earnings and dividends provide support, the market remains vulnerable to global risks and foreign capital flows.

Yesterday, the SET Index closed at 1,617.89 points, down 4.00 points or 0.25%, with a trading value of 81,330.74 million Baht. Throughout the session, the index traded mostly in negative territory. It faced downward pressure from selling in DELTA and the electronics components sector, as well as in certain banking stocks trading ex-dividend (XD).

Airport Rail Link (ARL) to continue to operate

State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Governor Anan Phonimdaeng announced that Asia Era One Co., Ltd. has agreed to extend its Airport Rail Link operations for four months (Oct 1, 2026 – Jan 31, 2027) following its contract expiration on September 30.
