Judges Alice Loke and Elaine Yap take oaths, marking new appointments in Malaysian judiciary

High Court Judge Alice Loke Yee Ching and Judicial Commissioner Elaine Yap Chin Gaik have been promoted, taking their oaths as Court of Appeal judge and High Court judge, respectively.

The swearing-in ceremony, attended by notable judicial figures, underscores Loke's extensive background, including her role in the Attorney General's Chambers and presiding over significant cases.

Yap, a former law firm proprietor, assumes her confirmed role in the Kuala Lumpur High Court's Commercial Division.

Both appointments are effective immediately.

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 10 — High Court Judge Alice Loke Yee Ching today took her oath of office and allegiance as a Court of Appeal judge.

Judicial Commissioner Elaine Yap Chin Gaik, meanwhile, took her oath of office and allegiance as a High Court judge.

Loke took her oath before Court of Appeal President Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais, while Yap took hers before Chief Judge of Malaya Datuk Seri Hashim Hamzah.

Also present at the swearing-in ceremony were Chief Justice Tun Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh and Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Azizah Nawawi.

Loke, 64, who hails from Taiping, Perak, is formerly the head of the Civil Division at the Attorney General’s Chambers. She was appointed a High Court Judicial Commissioner on July 10, 2020.

As a Kuala Lumpur High Court judge in the Special Powers Division, Loke presided over former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s judicial review application concerning an alleged addendum order that would have allowed him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

Meanwhile, Yap, 53, who hails from Penang, was appointed a High Court Judicial Commissioner on Aug 28, 2024, and confirmed as a High Court judge on Nov 3, 2025.

Prior to her appointment as a Judicial Commissioner, she was the sole proprietor of the law firm Elaine Yap Law Office. She currently serves in the Commercial Division of the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

现年64岁的陆兆福来自霹雳州太平，曾任总检察署民事部门主管。她于2020年7月10日被任命为高等法院司法专员。

作为吉隆坡高等法院特别权力庭的法官，陆兆福主持了前首相拿督斯里纳吉·敦·拉扎克的司法审查申请，该申请涉及一项据称允许他居家监禁服完剩余刑期的附加令。

与此同时，现年 53 岁、来自槟城的叶某于 2024 年 8 月 28 日被任命为高等法院司法专员，并于 2025 年 11 月 3 日被确认为高等法院法官。

在被任命为司法专员之前，她是叶伊莲律师事务所的唯一所有者。她目前在吉隆坡高等法院商业庭任职。
