Three suspects arrested in Alam Megah murder case, police thank public for vital leads

The Royal Malaysia Police have arrested three out of seven suspects linked to the Alam Megah murder investigation, following tips from the public.

While the arrested individuals will face charges under Sections 302 and 149 of the Penal Code, the search for the remaining suspects continues.

Additionally, Selangor police are evaluating the construction of a new police station in Puncak Alam, considering factors like population density and crime trends, despite recent successful operations against drug laboratories.

Meanwhile, no new arrests have been made in a separate rioting case in Taman Sri Muda.

SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have arrested three of seven suspects wanted to assist investigations into the Alam Megah murder in Section 28, here last month.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the suspects, all locals in their 20s and 40s, were arrested between Sept 4 and 7 following leads from members of the public after their photographs were made public last Friday.

“For the case which involves Section 302 read with Section 149 of the Penal Code, we have received instructions to charge the three suspects arrested recently, while the remaining four wanted individuals are still being hunted.

“The police would like to express our appreciation to members of the public and the media for their assistance, which led to the arrests,” he said in a press conference at the Selangor police contingent headquarters (IPK) here today.

He said on a separate case being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting in Taman Sri Muda here on Aug 13, no new arrest had been made so far.

On Aug 27, Shazeli said a brawl involving a group of individuals that resulted in the death of a man in Taman Alam Megah was believed to have stemmed from hostility and turf war between two secret societies.

Meanwhile, commenting on public calls for the proposed construction of a new police station in Puncak Alam following three successful operations to dismantle drug laboratories in the area, Shazeli said there are several key factors that need to be taken into consideration.

He said the establishment of a new police station does not depend solely on the discovery or exposure of drug laboratories in an area.

“The construction of a new police station is subject to consideration of various important criteria, such as population density, the pace of economic activity, and overall crime trends in the area.

“Although the area is large, population density in some parts is not yet widespread, and rushing to construct a new police station could reduce the efficiency of police manpower distribution,” he said.

He said the police, through the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) and patrol squads, have proactively stepped up patrols and security measures throughout the area to curb criminal activities. — Bernama
