MetMalaysia cautions of severe weather in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Johor

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and districts, including regions in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, and Johor, effective until 1pm.

The warning indicates the expectation of heavy rain and strong winds, with rainfall intensity potentially exceeding 20mm per hour and storms lasting over an hour.

MetMalaysia notes that these alerts are short-term and typically do not exceed six hours in duration.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning covering several states and districts until 1pm today.

The agency said heavy rain and strong winds were expected in Perlis, Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Yan, Kuala Muda, Kulim, Bandar Baharu and Langkawi), Penang, Selangor (Kuala Langat, Sepang and Klang), and Johor (Pontian, Johor Bahru and Kulai).

“Warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to last more than an hour,” MetMalaysia said.

The department added that such alerts are short term and valid for periods not exceeding six hours.
