NSE southbound lane near Menora Tunnel reopens after slope deemed safe

The left lane of the North-South Expressway southbound at KM263.6 has been reopened to all vehicles following a landslide, after assessments deemed the area safe.

Traffic is now flowing smoothly in both directions, although slope repair efforts will continue.

Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and follow safety instructions, especially in adverse weather conditions.

Previously, the landslide led to a 15km traffic jam between the Menora Tunnel and Ipoh.

IPOH, Sept 12 — The left lane of the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound at KM263.6, which was temporarily closed following a landslide yesterday, has been reopened to all vehicles at 1pm today.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said technical assessments by the relevant authorities found the slope at the location to be safe.

“As such, the southbound left lane was reopened to all vehicles at 1pm. Traffic in both directions is currently reported to be flowing smoothly.

“Repair works on the slope will continue to ensure that the area remains safe,” he said in a statement today.

He also advised motorists to exercise caution when passing through the area, comply with safety instructions and signages and reduce their speed, especially during rain or bad weather.

Earlier, the left lane at the landslide site at KM263.6 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) was closed, spanning about one kilometre.
